Fantastic idea.

Okay, I've had this fantastic idea shot down in flames, so lets recap. I think it would be a fantastic idea to have an NS Musical, in which people record themselves singing musical numbers and we write the musical itself based around said musical numbers. All good clean fun.

However, to do so, we would have to overcome these problems:
-Bandwidth. It would use ludicrous amounts of bandwidth.
-Lack of microphones. I don't know about you, but I don't have one.
-People not bothering to do it. Honestly, who's going to go out and buy a microphone, then record themselves singing (which may be rather embarrassing if others are present) and then take the trouble to upload it.

Did I miss any major problems with this idea?

Ok, since this isn't really encouraging much of a response, I'll tell you my idea: An NS musical. An actual NS musical, in which people record themselves singing, upload it, put a link to it on the forum and then we attempt to work it into the story. Good idea, no?

By the way, i understand that people would need microphones, decent computers, we would still need to find a music uploading site and not everyone will have the confidence.

Still, archive material if it goes well.

A musical based on nationstates?

Yeah! If we can upload music (and I'm not sure we can), people could record themselves singing a song of their choice, then we could write a musical around the songs, if you get what I mean.

Don't get TOO enthusiastic about it, everyone. :(

I like that you are looking to brighten the game, to use your imagination. However, I fear that this can further slow things, which would make me nautious. WOuld this slow down the site? music takes alot of space.

I guess you could have an indirect link to it. Maybe I could have a separate web page with all the music on it, with a link on the forum.

The forum has been getting a bit slow lately, hasn't it? I think we've got another post purge coming up.

I would really appreciate some help from computer-savvy people in implementing this.

This sounds awesome, Chicken Pi. Count me in.

By the way, what do you mean by...forum purge?

Deleting loads of pointless posts, basically. I think Corrupt a wish 1+2 can go, along with 99.9% of the old political threads still stored on the forum.

I haven't been on the forum long enough to see a post purge myself, but it should speed things up a lot.

I guess I'll just stick to political threads. Because it's much more interesting to recycle the same arguments over and over again than have an interesting departure from the norm, like an online musical.

*sigh*

The problem is, singing what? Would the lyrics be decided... democratically?

Same with the actual music.

But the least practical aspect is having everyone sing AND record. Sound tech is just not most singers (or most NSers) cup of tea.

Otherwise I'd be for it... except I'd rather it an actual opera, instead of just a musical.

Bandwidth. This is going to take a lot of bandwidth.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea; I'm just letting you know that you're going to need bandwidth. Lots of it.

Okay, the idea may have it's flaws...

Who cares about flaws? I'll help you fight off the flaws with my ninja-karate!
I do see Cogitation's point about bandwidth though...

Also, first I'd need to get:
1) A microphone. I don't have one. Maybe if I plug headphones into the mic in jack?
:D
2) A singing voice. I wouldn't want to accidentally kill anybody...

5) A computer. I've been transmitting my posts so far telepthically.

6) A power source to run the computer off of. I live at the bottom of the ocean, so there aren't many outlets.

Other than that, we're set!

1) Well, stuff like microphones and speakers is relatively cheap. At least, I think so. Bog standard computer peripherals tend to be £5-10.

2) No need for a singing voice. In fact, having good singers in such a thread could even be regarded as a liability.

I think the other two problems are an individual kind of thing. :)

There's still the bandwidth problem to deal with, though. And people's willingness to get involved. And numerous other problems which I may have forgotten about.

I had a mic before I had a webcam but I can't sing, unless it's almost ment to be funny, like imitation singing.
