Making the perfect thread.

I have a history of making threads that do not last long. (predicts this thread will end shortly)
I usually find interesting articles and post links, looking for discussions but I get very little.
Guns, God, Gays, and Abortion are hot topics. The hot topic is vital.
A topic (and wording) that borders on flamebait is also useful to 'stir the pot' as it were.
What does everyone here think makes a good thread?

The short threads are the best. I have never seen anything that I considered to be a truly good thread last longer than 4 or 5 pages. Generally speaking I think the best threads are the ones where very few people actually join in and those who do are really interested in discussing the topic. It's not about finding something that everyone and anyone can post on, it's about finding something that a few people can really discuss thoroughly.
I usually only start my own threads when the forum is clogged with OMG POLITICAL threads. Because I can only think up casual topics, and those tend to be best recieved when surrounded by serious threads. Otherwise I just post *in* the omgpolitical threads.
If you post serious threads, maybe you should try doing it during the frequent periods where the main General forum page is full of getting-to-know-you/spammy/game-like threads. That way, all the serious debating-people will pounce on your threads and keep them afloat.

Capitalism/Socialism threads have been hot also.
And accessible things that are open to response like:
1. Questions (like the homer simpson: republican or democrat?) one.
2. Statements of opinion intended to or bound to spark debate.
Then there are activities like "help me do this" or "where do I find this"
So maybe the perfect thread would combine all the hot topics together somehow, along with being a question and a statement and an activity. Inflammatory statements work great also, and things in the news (like Bush signed memo!!! etc)
Hmmm... "Did God tell Bush to sign a memo endorsing free market capitalism so gun businesses could sell guns for abortions? How can you help me find out? All Canadians are f**king Nazi socialists!"

Finding room to insult Belgium is absolutely vital. Just in general day-to-day conversation, too.
A really good thread would be about something original. There's about eight religion posts a day, and a constant stream of pro/anti-USA ones, and there's always one about Capitalism/Communism. And usually one having a go at homosexuals, and another having a go at people who have a go at homosexuals.

I say one thing is to check back into your topic and respond often. That seems to help, at least in my limited experience.
I wouldn't know much though. I post whatever.

ones where a genuine debate can be had - where people may come with a set of ideals gained from other experiences but not necessarily opinions already formed about the matter in question - thus enabling debate and for people to be able to form opinions during the arguement. also topics where conclusions can be reached - ie not ones that drag on without any form of conclusion whatsoever. example: the religion debates; nobody is ever going to change their stance or listen to, or even (for the most part) debate properly over something that is so fundamental to some, and utterly pointless to others. that's why i have both been uninterested in many of the topics over the last few weeks, and also stay clear of the religion threads (except that one i started, but that was just a passing thought).
then again it may just depend on the posters in the thread.
that doesn't really help does it?

Unless you're like me. I seem to post my threads to death >.<

Me too, it kind of sucks.
The perfect thread would be sucking up to me in some way.

You mean like the Myrth shrines? But they aren't perfect 'cause they get locked by other mods.

Wait, the harems got hot girls in it right? Can I come over?

Curse their jealously. Maybe I'll just start my own one.

Well, actually, *my* harem has guys in it (me being female and almost 100% straight and all)
But you could probably get a harem of your own pretty easily. Myrth and Sdaeriji both got harems with almost 0% total effort, and I got mine by basically asking if I could have one.

Well the "Flame Threads" do well in this forum. Try insulting a nation or a group of people and throw in some thinly veiled racism.
Curse their jealously. Maybe I'll just start my own one.
Would that be immune to locks? Or am I missing something?
Seems a shame that you'd need to start your own when there are so many people like me (I assume) who want to start them for you.

Curses, I guess I'll just have to get my own with girls in it.

They couldn't lock a thread of mine without incurring my wrath.

I probably shouldn't question that any further.
Still seems like a shame to me though.

A mighty shame... my poor shrine. *manly tear*

You, sir, are insane.
Myrth, you get stealth Mod cookies. And the happy knowledge that at least there are a bunch of people who *want* to make you shrines, even if they can't.

I find it disturbingly ironic that the thread I created to find out how to make perfect threads since I couldn't make a truly popular thread is becoming so popular.

I don't think so...
I'll give you points for being almost as awesome as me.
