There's an even better one that was passed in Florida called the Scarlet Letter Law. Google it, I'm too lazy to explain it. I'll post a link if I get around to it.

They are the dumb neighbours... The annoying ones who no matter how much you ignore, you can't completely block them out because they are always there. An existance you have to learn to accept... sadly and grudgingly enough.

Wow law, modern society and civilization as we know it all seem to be increasing in stupidity by leaps and bounds.

The only thing I can think of is he must be anticipating the inevitable overturning of Roe v. Wade and aiming this law at cracking down on back alley abortions.

Pretty stupid, but it would be reality everywhere if the religious right got their way - and it wouldn't be a small sentence like a misdemeanor either.

Wow. Words don't even come close to describing the idiocy of that bill. It's even worse than (and I never thought I'd hear myself say this) a bill we recently had that would allow people to have guns in bars.
Truly moronic. My sympathies to Virginia. A pox upon those who vote for this trash.

Thats awful.

You would feel like you had failed after having a miscarriage and then you have to report it to the police like your a bad person?! How awful would that be.

No wonder my ancestors left Virginia! ;)

This law will not stand. Miscariages happen all the time. Something doesn't cook right and the body rejects.

There is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a miscariage in the early days of pregnancy.

Ok...that is really dumb. But in reality...if no one knew you were pregnant, and you miscarried and dealt with it yourself, you would most likely never get caught.

All this law would do is make more people keep their pregnancies a secret from everyone.

The sad point is that some dumbass decided it would be a good idea in the first place.

That is probably the most f*cked up law I've ever heard. Why the hell do the cops need to know? Your baby, your pain your grief are not the polices concern and if you go to jail for it, then that is also f*cked up. Why should you go to jail for something like that, which you had no control over? The idiot that thought it up should be kicked in the ass and deported to Cuba, no Haiti.

The problem is that most people freak at bleeding and you call the Doc. This law makes him have to notify the police.

I think it's away to chip away at the privacy laws so they can have the docs report abortions.....

Don't know Virginias privacy laws....

I really can't bring myself to believe this is happening. In the most literal sense of that. I suppose it will hit me tomorrow, and then I'll be angry about it.

It is a supreme waste of time.

Just because an egg was fertalized does not make it a valid life.

There has to be a constant rate of mitosis for an egg to become a fetus.

Sometimes the rate just doesn't happen. As such the body flushes it.....

Waste of time.

Don't they teach creationism in Virgina! ;)

How the hell would they even know you were pregnant in the first place? Enforcement of this law would be a scary thing, because it would lead back to one of the necessary steps in outlawing abortion entirely which is to track all pregnancy. It's complete bullshit, and if the law passes, it will be a travesty and mockery of everything this country stands for.

Thank you.

For real. this would be a disaster, because if people started keeping their pregnancies secret, they would be definitely lacking in proper prenatal care...which is going to lead to more medical problems later (if not miscarriage). This just makes absolutely no sense to me. AT all.

To be honest... and I hate to say this... but it actually seems to fit in remarkably well with many of the other laws being passed, and the attitude expressed by the majority (at least the 'we voted Bush because he's against Gays and pro-choice' part of the majority).

If I were living in America, I wouldn't feel safe as a liberal, pro-choice, pro-gay-rights, anti-war (all-round-dirty-hippy) woman. I'd be packing my bags and heading out. It depresses me that so many people can't do this (due to financial or family connections). A whole bunch of people are now paying taxes to an authority that does not only not protect them, but is actively seeking to strip away their rights as human beings.

Sad, really >.<

Yup, that about sums it up. It really does suck, and if things get more than a little bit worse I'll be getting out myself. Don't know where I'll go though, because nowhere is that much better. Maybe I'll go living in a cabin in Canada. Actually, I'd rather go to Brazil illegally and live in the rain forest without anyone knowing I was there.

My cat has something that originally resembled a fabric and foam igloo, but now resembles nothing more than a slightly uneven pancake. I still don't know how the hell he managed that (he didn't do it from the outside, he did it from the *inside*).

He still sleeps in it too. Proof positive he's insane.

Well, all that's needed to discredit this bit of nonsense is to quote their lead sentance: "The legacy of Howard Dean's campaign in Virginia." Nuff said. :D

My dog used to have a little plastic/metal pet porter that she stayed in while we were out of the apt (until we bought a crate)....we started noticing a hole growing in the side of it, and one day we came home and she was laying on the couch. She ate her way out of the dog-carrier. We put her back in it (just for kicks) to see how she got out, and it was absolutely truly hilarious.
