RAMALLAH, West Bank (AlJazeera) - He's been a prostitute's rich beau, an officer, a gentleman and a gigolo, but Palestinians can't fathom actor Richard Gere latest incarnation as a cheerleader for their elections this weekend.

"Hi, I'm Richard Gere and I'm speaking for the entire world. We're with you during this election time. It's really important. Get out and vote," Gere says in the English-language advertisement. He repeats the phrase, "Get out and vote" in Arabic.

But many voters, already struggling with the labyrinthine politics of the West Bank and Gaza, say they have never heard of the actor who swept Debra Winger off her feet as a dashing Navy officer in the 1982 film "An Officer and a Gentleman" and were even less interested when they were told he's an American.

"I don't even know who the candidates are other than Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas), let alone this Gere," Gaza soap factory worker Manar an-Najar told Reuters Wednesday.

"We don't need the Americans' intervention. We know who to elect. Not like them -- they elected a moron."

Shouldn't he be trying to free Tibet? What's he doing in the middle east?

Palestinians pick Arafat heir while U.S.(and Israel) waits in the wings
Fri Jan 7, 6:56 AM ET

As Palestinians go to the polls Sunday to choose a president to replace Yasser Arafat (news - web sites), they're like actors in one of those Hollywood movies with two equally plausible endings: One tragic. One happy.

Which will make the cut?
........
For much of the past four years, the Bush administration has focused... on other areas.

President Bush's grand plan is to bring democracy (really) to Afghanistan and Iraq, starting a wave of reform in oil-rich dictatorships across the region.

That's a bold change from the past, when the U.S., like nearly all other nations, viewed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as the region's central issue. Previous U.S. presidents tried to play the honest broker between the two sides in an effort to get an agreement they saw as the key to the region's stability.

The Bush administration, though, refused to deal with Arafat in the years before his death in November.

I had a weird dream last night. Abbas and Sharon were singing on stage. Sharon was thin and they were doing a duet of Another One Bites the Dust.

Hell, if they disdain him now, imagine how they'll react when they find out about the gerbil incident. *chuckles*

Strange as it seems, there's been a run of crazy dreams; and a man who could interprate could go far...could become a star.

Sorry for that, but your dream is sort of Joeseph-esque. The thin cows represented famine, so I guessing a thin Sharon means less of something for Isreal, the duet shows a groing friendship (or a least peace) between the two countries as the old 'war' bites the dust.

That's what the dream means. NOW MAKE ME A HIGH RANKING OFFICIAL IN EGYPT - POST HASTE, for I wish to teach my familly a leason. :D
