Uh... at what level of mathematics are you thinking of?

I think you mean an unsolvable quadratic... Most people would assume that they can't be solved, but... well... they can...

eg. x^2 < 0 has no solution... except it does... and the solution is -> x=ai where a is real and non-zero.

Every algebraic equation has a solution on some extension field. So "unsolvable" means by definition "unsolvable on the given field." Presumably in this case he means the real numbers.
