No matter which way you slice it, TWAT isn't a war. Just like the war against drugs.

The War Against Terror. You can't wage war "on" a concept. You can wage a war on, say, a landmass, but not on the people on the landmass. It's a usage thing.

How exactly does one declare war on a noun? LOL
It's no different then the war on drugs or the war on poverty..
It's misleading and no, not WWIII by no means.

Germany declared War on the U.S. The U.S is a place therefore a noun. Bush Declared war on terror. terror is a thing therfore it is a noun. The War on Drugs and the war on Poverty is Completely diffrent from the war on Terror. WE do not have armed troops fighting in the war on drugs (excludeing Coast Guard and police) or the war on Poverty. The War on terror is a shooting war unlike the war on drugs and the war on poverty.

What? Neither of these wars are world wars. Neither of them can even compare to WW1 or WW2, in terms of countries involved, lives lost or scale of fighting.

Poverty exists in places. Drugs come from places. Terror comes from places too. All nouns.
Have you also noticed how lousy the war on povery and drugs have been going? BTW the war on drugs involves a lot of shooting. Ever hear of a guy named Escobar? Lots of bullets and danger. Funny enough where ever there is poverty there seems to be an excess of drugs.
The problem is the vague definition of the enemy. "Terror", "Drugs", "Poverty". They are not definite, finite things. They are CONDITIONS. These wars need to be fought at their root causes and not its effects in order to be won which makes them such impossible wars to win if you use the traditional way wars are fought. Traditionally, wars are wages against the effects, not causes.
You cannot get a vague definition to surrender. They are like a disease. You need to treat the cause and not the symptoms in order to beat it, unlike an actual war. If people would actually try to remove the root causes of wars them maybe the world would become a bit happier.

Yes, it is WW3. (or maybe WW4 if the Cold War was WW3)
It is not surprising that few people realize that yet. WW2 was not actually called that until 1945 by which time it was mostly over (it was "the war in Europe" or "the war in the Pacific").
This war has been going on for close to a decade. At first we did not fight back at all, now we are fighting in an extremely restrained way... let's just hope the gloves don't have to come off.
Btw here's a quote from the movie "The Guns of Navarone" which is very relevant...
Mallory: The only way to win a war is to be just as nasty as the enemy. The one thing that worries me is we're liable to wake up one morning, and find we're even nastier than they are.
Franklin: I can't say that worries me!
Mallory: Well, you're lucky.
