How Liberal is NS?

La Terra di Liberta

I know that not everyone is, we have communists, nazis, libertarians, conservatives, socialists, etc but the majority of people that seem to post here tend to be more liberal. I'm not saying it's a bad thing or a good thing, it's simply an observation I've made. I know if I started a thread up about lets say the US election, I know I'm gonna get more people thay prefer the democrat (or hate the guts of the republican or dislike him a lot) than visa versa. So, on a scale of one to ten, one being the least, ten being the most, how liberal do you think NS is?

I voted three as an average of all the posts I've read from young earth creationists who think gays are evil and bush is the second comming to communists who think America is evil and bush is the antichrist.

I'm a newcomer, but from my limited exposure here, I don't see a major left-wing bias, maybe a small one. I was referred to this site by a friend of mine who regularly posts on DU (if that matters).

On a side note, the argument threads on this forum seem to more substantive than other political boards I've visited.

I think actually La Terra di Liberta that it's some times misleading.. I think that liberals (myself included are very vocal, it is a trait of being liberal) and we should also take into account that the majority of the free world is far more liberal than the United states is. Yet it is odd I admit given the make up of NS, which has far more Americans than any one else. However perhaps since the move to Jolt there are more people from Europe than there use to be given it's a site out of the UK.. But the make up was largely American as this graph that Max posted shows.

By Country..

Also keep in mind that there are A LOT of young people here as well, which will slant political view based on shall we call them the "rebel years" lol

I gave it an 8, because of all the anti-Bush posts I've read here.

Well, Nation States is a neutral forum, but yes, many members do share certain idealogies.

You're better off asking if the majority of members are liberal.

Wow, now this is an interesting poll.

Might I suggest that it be added to the paradox list? Here's the reasoning:

If someone votes a 10, they must be of a somewhat conservative bend, given it's a relative scale. Therefore, does the presence of such a conservative NSer preclude the possibility of NS as a whole receiving a perfect 10?

Given all the pro-Religous right, pro-free market capitalism, anti-socialism, anti-communism, anti-abortion and creationist posts knocking abou I've got to say pretty illiberal. Unless it's just that the illiberal's shout the loudest.

you should have included, with your poll, instructions as to which end of the range means "extremely liberal" and which means "not at all liberal"

if you did and i just missed it, you have my apologies.

okay, I just saw the explanation.. never mind. lol

Infact lets, make one socialist and ten conservative and for all you Libertarians like myself, find your own spot.
NS is so liberal [ read "far-left" ] it makes John Kerry look like a neocon! Can you say "off the friggin' CHARTS" boys and girls? :headbang:

I have a problem with the poll. The poll's question is "how liberal is NS". The rankings go from 1=most liberal to 10=most conservative. That's counterintuitive. Most people, I think, will not read the first post before posting and will assume 10=most liberal. And there's no way for them to change their vote after it's cast. The results will be flawed.

I am a Canadian liberal and I voted 7. I do believe that there are more liberals than conservatives on at least the General forum, however the conservatives are seen as being more equal in proportion as they scream the loudest.

I agree. The poll is definitely misleading. :headbang:

Everyone has their own opinions, its just some here don't respect other peoples views.

I think it's hard to quantify expecially considering an American definition of "liberal" may not hold true in other countries. I may be *gasp* somewhat right wing if I were in Canada, for instance!

I give us a 5. I think about 55% of this forum is populated by liberals. Then it's about 25% conservative and 20% libertarians.

NS is so liberal [ read "far-left" ] it makes John Kerry look like a neocon! Can you say "off the friggin' CHARTS" boys and girls? :headbang:
What? Liberals enjoy a slight majoity here. There are plenty of conservatives. It's not like any argument threads are ever starved of people of either ideology. Kerry isn't that liberal anyway. he's centrist.

You speak as if this is a communist forum!

i am still astounded that people can call themselves communist and intelliogent at the same time. how many times does that system have to fail miserably before collectivism is thrown out as good on paper but totally incompatible with human nature? anyway, get a load of this article, as a libertarian, i cracked up.....

Liberals Return To Sodomy, Welfare Fraud
BERKELEY, CA—No longer occupied by the 2004 election, liberals across the country have returned to the activities they enjoy most: anal sex and cheating the welfare system. "I've been so busy canvassing for the Democratic Party, I haven't had a single moment for suckling at the government's teat or no-holds-barred ass ramming," said Jason Carvelli, an unemployed pro-hemp activist. "Now, my friends and I can finally get back to warming our hands over burning American flags and turning kids gay." Carvelli added that his "number-one priority" is undermining the efforts of freedom-loving patriots everywhere.

i wonder if a neo-con would read this and believe it......

It's really all a matter of perception. Some of us on the left may think this board is overly conservative, some on the right may think it is overly liberal. We look at the world through what it is we believe and think. To me, it's hard to say how liberal these forums actually are.
