Ain't the web wonderful

To sum the article up briefly...
There are scum bags trying to steal money from people donating money to the tsunami tragedy, the fbi have released an inadequate (and badly written) warning.
I'm sure this sort of thing would have existed before the web but it just makes things like this easier.
Perhaps it should have been aint people wonderful?

It happens all over the world mate. There's bastards who would go so low as to take advantage of the weak and needy all the time.

One of my friends right, is a grade-A hacker. He once hacked into a microsoft office site and changed the page. It was in the news.
Recently, somone tried to swindle him in an E-mail. Using some software that he had, he hacked the other guys account, where the fool had his home E-mail address listed. We uploaded a virus to his machine...
No one swindles us... Heh heh heh. :upyours:

Yeah, no one ever believes me when I tell them about my mate... which is good as it means we'll always get away with it. Denial-A useful tool.

No, seriously - you're being a moron. I'm waiting for you to breaking out the 1337 speak.
Don't make us spell out just how much of a moron you're being.

Thats just because everyone always claims to know a hacker (and your friend probably falls more into the cracker or script kiddie range) in order to make what can sometimes become a threat.
Same as in real life saying you or your buddy knows karate ... it may be true but it is claimed so often that no one believes it (its wierd because I am whitehat and know karate but yeah lol that is besides the point)

Well that IS how most get caught ... friends or they themselfs braging (usualy in irc rooms) its silly but at least a large majority of virus writers will get caught with this method

I don't threaten - in fact I find hacking boring. I haven't done it in about 4 years. my friend only does it now when he sees nessesary. Why threaten with somthing so pathetic?
By the way my friend doesn't know Karate, but I know Tai Chi-Handy for relaxing.

Dude, your profile says you'r 19 years old. So you haven't hacked since you were 15. Are you seriously trying to say you and your mate are the kids 'War Games' was based on?
You and you're mate aren't international hackmeisters, so don't come on here and tell us you are. I dunno if your mate just lied to you about the microsoft thing, or if you're lying, but there's a stong stench of bullshit from the enitre thing.
Mind you, I reckon you might know Tai Chi.

Well then like I said not really a hacker ... the term has ran away with the media that cant tell the difference
hacking generaly is a intelectual exersize ... traditionaly no defacement or theft of data occurs rather a security test
cracker is someone who is out there attempting to break boxes for a purpose ... usualy defacement or data theft.
Anyways sorry pet peve (kind of like the difference between nerd and geek ... another pet peve) I am a GEEK damn it!

While I agree with some why not 15? I started at 16? I mean I dont see age as a problem (21 now) may have started small but thats not really the point

It's the starting small part, really. Microsoft aren't small fry. And you're more likely to get clocked when inexperienced in any form of crime, which is why we find out about younger hackers rather than simply finding out stuffs been fucked from no-where.

Naw I cant find any record of them having their webpage defamed aroudn that time ... though there has been some source code theft and other sucessfull hacks around that time ... nothing as far as I have seen with the site

Pre-release stuff such as longhorn code and other pre released products
Also source is very valuable out there … specially for other hackers/crackers
Another form of scum are the people that feed off these disasters: chain letter people.
I got a message along the lines of "send this to 13 other people, or something bad will happen to you but if you do do it then the tsunami victims will be happy"
People like that are scum. You want to help the tsunami victims? DONATE.
Same thing happened with the school siege in chechnya(spelling?).
"Put a rose in your name to show respect for the people in chechnya(spelling again?)"
Does anyone think a rose in their msn name is going to do anything? I sent money to chechnya after that, and when I confronted people about the stupidity of the rose i get "oh! youre an asshole! show some respect!"

Wait, so now you're admitting you're crap?
Here's the lowdown:
You've seen a couple of MTV specials on hackers, you might even have seen the eponymous 1995 film with Johnny Lee Miller (which was utter utter drivel btw). No doubt you've read a bit on the web about them.
But you, sonshine, are NOT a hacker. And neither is your mate. For one thing, you wouldn't brag about it on a forum like this where your IP is logged, and each thread gets 100s of views.
You also wouldn't brag about non-existent hacks that you and "your mate" did in the past. Also, most hackers (certainly the ones I know personally) are 'white hat' hackers, i.e. they explore in the spirit of playful cleverness, and never damage, destroy or delete data. (I get 10 alliteration points for that sentence btw).
Real hacking is not about downloading a script and executing it. Nor it is about trying to hax0r someone's hotmail account. But I don't need to tell you this, you even said yourself that you're crap.
Drop the pretense. Most hackers are intelligent, sophisticated, playful and *discreet*. Those of us on this forum with an IQ higher than a glass of water can tell right away that you're talking sh*te.

I may want to add white hat generally encompasses one who does it not only for a challenge (as alluded to in your statement) but generally what defines the “White” part of their hat is not only the non malicious motivations but also the general fact that “white hats” report holes found
As opposed to grey and black who also do it out of challenge but have different records for reporting
(white hat since 01 probably why I got my job of network/security admin)

Plus triple-word score for alliteration.

Again with my comment on hackers being caught … they do “Brag” all the time … it just seems to be something engrained in us that wants recognition (and those that have turned it into useful job opportunities no longer have to worry … being legal and all)
