.. ok this topic is mainly an excuse for you guys to answer this riddle...but you can continue making riddles w/o me :P

here's the riddle.

Three guys in a hotel room call room service and order two large pizzas. The delivery boy brings them up, with a bill for exactly $30. Each guy gives in a $10 bill, and he leaves. That's fact!

When he hands the $30 to the cashier, he is told a mistake was made. The bill was only $5, not $30. The cashier gives the delivery boy five $1 bills and tells him to take it back to the three guys who ordered the pizzas. That's fact!

On the way back to their room, the delivery boy has a thought. These guys did not give him a tip. He figures that since there is no way to split $5 evenly three ways anyhow, he will keep two dollars for himself and give them back three dollars. Ok, so far so good!

He knocks on the door and one fellow answers. He explains about a mix-up in the bill, and hands the guy the three dollars, and then departs with the $2 in his pocket. Now the fun begins!

Remember $30 - $25 = $5 right? $5 - $3 = $2 right? So what's the problem? All is well, right?
Not quite. Answer this: Each of the three guys originally gave $10 each. They each got $1 back in change. That means they paid $9 each, which times three is $27.
The delivery boy kepy $2 for a tip. $27 plus $2 equals $29. Where the heck is the other dollar?

Okay i think the whole point is not that $27 + $2 =$29 but that $30 - $3 and then - $2 = $25 and not adding it at the end (which makes it look like a dollar is missing)

erm ok

you have said:

30 - 3 +2 = 29

(makes it look like 1 is missing)

in reality its

30 - 3 -2 =25

All change accounted for. 3 taken off and given back to the customers. Another 2 taken off taken by the delivery boy.

The answer is simple: There is no other dollar.

$30 is paid.
But 5 dollars is returned, thus making 25 dollars paid.

Of the $5 change, the boy gets 2 and each man gets 1.

25+2+1+1+1=30.

$27 = $25 (for the pizza) + the tip.

It is a question of faulty math. All money is accounted for:
Cashier has $25
Pizza Boy has $2
Guys have $3

when you do the equation the way you put it it does not add up because the math is faulty.

Kinda confusing the way it's worded.

Each person paid $9 =$27

$27 = $25 Pizza + $2 Tip

You don't add the Tip. Unlike he says in his question at the bottom.

$30-$27 = $3 (The ammount of money given back)

Quite simple.

well does anyone have anymore riddles? Now I'm in the mood.
You might not classify all of these as riddles, but here you go anyway:

1) What single word does this represent? The dashes are only used for spacing purposes:

----J----K
10---Q----A

2) You want to plant four trees such that every tree is an equal distance from the others. How?

3) You're in the middle of a dry, grassy, narrow island a mile long. The east coast is on fire, and the wind is speading the fire to the west at a rate of one mile per hour.

You can't swim - what do you do?

4) For whatever reason, you buy 400 kilos of cucumbers. These consist (by weight) of 99% water.

After a few days some of the water has evaporated. The cucumbers now consist of 98% water. How much do they now weigh, in total?

5) O, T, T, F, F, S, S, ?

6) What word can be placed after each of the following to make six new (English) words?

sea
slave
star
tape
war
who

7) Almost, biopsy, chintz. The connection?

8) Using the numbers 3, 3, 7, 7 once each, and only using the standard +, -, * (multiply) and / (divide) operators, you can make a total of 37 as follows: 3 * (3 + 7) + 7.

Now make a total of 24.

9) You're on a gameshow! Three doors lie in front of you: a million dollars lies behind one, and nothing behind the other two.

This is how it works: you pick one of the three doors. The gameshow host, who knows where the money is, then opens one of the remaining two doors to reveal...nothing. You then have a choice: you can stick with your original door, or you can switch to the remaining unopened door. You get whatever is behind your chosen door.

The question is, do you stick or switch? (Note: if you haven't seen this problem before, think about it carefully. Your gut reaction is probably wrong).

10) Move 3 matches to get a valid equation:

|||| - || = ||||

Find as many solutions as you can. Note: trivial moves (i.e. moving a match, then moving it back again) don't count.

well does anyone have anymore riddles?

Two words: heterologous and autologous.

'Heterologous' describes a word which doesn't refer to itself. Thus the word 'long' is heterologous as 'long' is not a long word.

'Autologous' describes a word which does refer to itself. Thus the word 'wee' is autologous as 'wee' is a wee word.

Question: Is 'heterologous' a heterologus word?

2) You want to plant four trees such that every tree is an equal distance from the others. How? Each is equally spaced around a circle.

That's all I figured...

Problem here is that 4 points on a circle make a square, and the diagonals are not equal to the sides.

What you could do is to plant one on a hill (or in a pit) and the other three in an equilateral triangle centred on that point, such that you create a tetrahedron - think of a D4 if that helps you to visualise it.

.. ok this topic is mainly an excuse for you guys to answer this riddle...but you can continue making riddles w/o me :P

here's the riddle.

OOO OOOO Pick me. I know.

You are coutning the tip twice, and not coutning the money they were givem back. They each paid $10-$1=$9x$3=$27. So far so good. The pizza was $25. The other two to make $27 is the delivery boys "tip". You subtracted the money that they were given back, but have yet to add it to the total amounto of money. So $27+$3=$30.

NIce riddle. One of my all time favorites. Back in HS I had a math teacher who gave this to us as a quiz offering a whole bunch of extra credit if we could figure it out. I did. He said it wasn't possible and wouldn't give me the points. It was sad.
