Why is this, :fluffle: , known as a fluffle, how did it become known as a fluffle, and who first fluffled whom?

I don't know, and I don't care, all we need to know is that fluffling is evil!

1) It is known as a fluffle because the inventor of this 'smiley' was called Edward Fluffle.

2) Creating it back in the early 1940s, it became a commonly used smiley for everyday life. You would often see people 'fluffling' in streets worldwide.

3) The first record of an official fluffle was the 7th of June, 1941, between Edward Fluffle and Queen Elizabeth II, at the 'royal flufflefest'.
Records show it is unknown when the first unofficial fluffle was, but it was sometime between 1920 and 1941, as these are the years where Mr. Fluffle was experimenting and investigating the best type of smiley.

Hope that helped.

I wouldn't know. All I do know is that I take every opportunity I get to put the fluffle into action, and unfortunately, those opportunities are few and far between. So :fluffle: to the lot of you! No wait, that could be considered a nice gesture...

Look at it. :fluffle: . Can you think of a better word than 'fluffle'? It fits the action perfectly, IMO. 'Smozzwoggy' was the closest alternative I could come up with, and that would just be stupid.

Actually, the smiley is nothing like what I understand by a 'fluffle'.

A fluffle is supposed to be the act of an affectionate messing up of someone's hair with the palm of your hand. Easy to see where the word comes from, you fluff someone's hair. It's a nice-sounding word, too.

That it is ... I was confused when I got here too (and the hands are kind of messing up where the hair would be if they had hair)

But fluffle is a cool word!

The story of the fluffle is forgotten by most people :(

Only the select few study it these days, the sacred teachings of Edward Fluffle.

If only 'Smoking Man', was here to back me up with the true story of the fluffle.

*And for the record, I agree UT is the King of fluffling 2004/5.

Negative; I just find the smilie annoying, especially in excessive quantities. Plus, the only one allowed to fluffle me is my girlfriend.
