Wow, this is random. It's not religion, it's not politics, it's not flamebait.
I LOVE IT!

The worst part is realizing you are out of bait and have to stop fishing! That's all the stuff is good for!

Having actually done it, I know what its like, but I could not find "all the above option"

You sir, have won my respect.

All I remember is how the goo covering the insides of it look soo much like a bodily substance... But I like squid, it's like they're built to be taken apart. So easy to strip them down... I think I barbequed that squid that I'm thinking about. o.o;

Squid....*blink* now that's one big WTF moment....I've never had to clean the mess, but I have to admit it tastes pretty good.

Your choices with squid are: cook it fast (five minutes or less) or cook it LOOOOOOOOONG. Otherwise, it IS rubbery.
I prefer it blanched fast, marinated in olive oil and lemon juice, with parsley, carrot bits, celery bits, garlic (of course), onion and, of course, octopus. Otherwise, I like it in tomato sauce over linguine.
Fried is a taste sensation of last resort for me, as it is often rubbery.
And yes, it is pretty gross to clean -- I generally cut off the head, pull out the bit of "bone" inside, scoop out the insides, turn it inside out and wash the inside of the tube.
Another good way to prepare it is to chop the tentacles up with breadcrumbs, celery, carrots, garlic etc, stuff the cleaned out tube with it, close it with a wooden toothpick soaked in water, and broil or grill. YUM!
(and yes, it does make good bait too.)

My cousin and her father used to go squid jigging all the time. That means they actually go CATCH them out in the sea.
Thing is after you haul them up they squirt that ugly black ink at you. My cousin always handed them to her father at that time. He'd come home covered in black and she'd not have a speck of ink on her. Clean as a whistle :D
Now that's bad. Catching them. Should have been an option but alas its in a restaurant.
