How far back can you trace your bloodline and from what countrys do your people come from?

I am an Icelander and that means that my people came from Norway, Scotland and Ireland but I am also 1/4 German. Germanic and Celt and today I can trace by bloodline back to 710 A.D.

According to the Icelandic Sagas I am a descendant of an anciant Irish King, Viking Cheiftains and Warriors, Leifur Eiríksson (Leif Ericsson), Eiríkur Rauði (Eric The Red), Snorri Sturluson, Scottish and German on my fathers side and Viking Lords on my mothers side.

Thats pretty good for an American, most of you can't trace it that far back.
What Native American tribe are your people from?

My family traced back to the mid 1500's in germany. My ancestors were rich merchants who were involved in public government and church affairs, they held no titles of nobility.

I'm the first born of the first born of the etc. back to Ireland where we were crapy landowners (we had a castle in the town of the same name, but apparently couldn't afford to maintain...). If there was a legacy it would be mine. The closest thing we have to a legacy is being piss poor business owners, which I could easily live up to.....

On the otherside, reindeer herders from Norway.

Over all, pretty unexciting.

Part of me comes from Moses Cleveland (Grover's grandpa, the person for whom the city is named), so people have done a lot of work for me. Part of that line has been traced back to ancient Rome.

Did your family actully own a castle?
Is a Keep and a Castle the same thing? Just asking, not connected to what you are talking about, just in general.

Most Americans are mutts, I'm a mutt a damn proud of it. Considering what happens with chronic inbreeding I'm happy to be a mutt. Mutts rule, in breeders drool.

We did own a bigass stone structure. But your keep/castle question stumps me.

My brother is more the historian, really. We got a lot of shakey info from both sides so my brother went and looked everything up. The town still exists with our old spelling (we changed the spelling twice, once to make it less Irish for the English and the second time to help Americans pronounce it-though that didn't help. And we now pronounce it wrong....you kinda need an Irish accent to pull it off) The castle or keep (not prepared to make that distinction-though I think the keep is the living quarters of the castle...no, that doesn't sound right....) is still there as well, but it is in ruins. I met a priest who grew up near there and played in the ruins as a kid. I think he was a little disappointed at what happened to the line.

This probably didn't answer your question. I'm sure by the time I've typed this someone has made the distinction between a keep and a castle for you. Sharp bunch, these NSers, despite our cynicism....

As far as I know we where the 'bad guys' of Irish history, the land owners. Ah well. We certainly paid for it...

We still carry the german name and still hold some german traditions. However, we also have english, scot, irish and french thrown in. My family came over prior to the revolutionary war and fought in it on the colonial side.

Ye, I think a Keep was like a Garrison in the old days but one could still live in them and a Castle is something like big house for "noble" people or "royalty" but today and in the past two centurys the rich people lived in them. I think so anyway not really sure.

My mom's side of the family is from Italy, all the way back, on both sides. My dad's side is from England, Scotland, and i think Ireland. My great-grandma (my grandma's mom) was born in Stokesly, England, and my great-great grandpa (my grandma's grandfather) was born in Scotland, they think Paisley. My mom said that my grandpa's parents are from England and Ireland. My mom was born in Casino, Italy. My dad was born here in Canada.

Cool me too. Chances are her side of the family is connected to the Royal Stewart Clan either as a Stewart or one of their Septs. A lot of us went to America and Canada one step ahead of the English sword when the Bonny Prince Charlie thing went south.

Believe it or not your probably also distantly related to Queen Elizabeth II. She's from the German side of the family, (don't tell the English).

I got Swedish, Polish, Russian, German, Finnish. That's on my dad's side. On my Mom's side I just say American because one of her ancestors was on the Mayflower and you can't get more American than that. Though at some point I probably got some Native blood in there somehow.

My bloodline orginates from Germany and Wales. My Great great-Grandfather left Germany for the UK shortly before WWI. He was a gardener, and actually served as a royal gardener during WWI. My Great Great Grandmother was welsh, so that's kinda my origin.
