Nirvana?

Why is it that everyone seems to like Nirvana? I hear people talking about how great Nirvana are, and how great Kurt Cobain was. Why?

Kurt Cobain was a terrible guitarist, an even worse singer and his songwriting is appalling. Krist Novoselic was nothing special, and to be fair neither was Dave Grohl.

So what is it that everyone loves Nirvana for? Their music is terrible. And why is Cobain a legend? He couldn't play guitar or sing or write good songs, so what makes him a legend?

I've been told that Nirvana never actually wanted to be famous. What? So if they didn't want to be famous why did they make 'songs' and sell albums and build up a massive fanbase if they didn't want to be famous? Nobody goes into music or the public limelight if the don't want to be famous.

The meaning behind Smells Like Teen Spirit, the most famous and well known song is pointless: Cobain broke up with his girlfrind. The perfume she wore was called 'Teen Spirit' and someone wrote on one of the walls in Cobain's house, 'Kurt smells like teen spirit'. Wow... real deep.

Heart Shaped Box is another one... Courtney Love decided to have a heart shaved into her pubes... so why the hell did Cobain write a 'song' about it? Does anybody except him care?

Argh... I hate Nirvana so much...

Grr... rant-rant. So yeah, opinions people?

I'm actually not a nirvana fan. There were better bands around at the time. Some even made it big, like soundgarden and alice in chains. Nirvana is remembered because Smells like teen spirit woke up all the idiots listening to hair bands.

For songs to be great they dont necarssarily have to be good or great. Maybe its his attitude that people like? Maybe people like people who shoot their own brains out. Who knows how the human brain works. Most songs are about pointless crap, such as breaking up with a girlfriend and most of them dont even have much musical skill in them, apart from singing (its my opinion that anyone can sing well, unless dumb).

These aren't answears just my speculations. Not really good ones at that.

Why don't you read one of the millions of reviews and articles of critical praise for Nirvana and find out. They were revolutionary for music.

Nirvana were good. But they weren't the best band ever. or even the best "grunge" band [Alice in Chains]. They were just the highest profile and happened to not last long enough to make anything really shit or alienate their fans by branching out musically.

the only really bad thing about Nirvana is that everyone goes on about them as if they're better than loads of other good bands and the hero-worship that results from Kurt Cobain being dead. Even though most of today's Cobain-kids think he's cool 'cause he's dead and wouldn't have helped with his depression anyway.

No one makes a big deal about Layne Staley being dead even though he died in much more tragic circumstances...

Point is, Nirvana were cool but so were aload of other bands. And they had good politics, but so do other bands. They just got famous. don't blame them, blame the people who only own "Nevermind" and think it's the only album in the world worth having...

I'm not a big nirvana fan at all and I hate it when you see the kids that are 12 wearing hoodies with his suicide note on the back and acting like he was a god when really he was a drug addict fool.

Though i do like the MTV unplugged session but then they're all pretty great.
