Gender Identification?

Quick rant, after seeing someone call Cog a girl, i got to wondering. Is it possible to identify your genders...or whatever gender we claim to be online for some of you. ;)

Or this a hopeless dream?

Basically just saying, that next to your name, it will say whether you are male or female. :)

I guess we could list our sex next to our location in the box on the left of our posts. BTW I'm male.

Just how do I get mistaken for a girl, anyway?

I think it's the lack of photographic evidence to the contrary. Yepyep. *nudges Cog in the direction of the player pics thread*

Go on... not like it's selling your soul or anything *quickly covers fine print with her thumb*

Are you implying that you will treat postings differently on the basis of what the writer may or may not have between their hips?

Well it is one factor to take into account.

No, but it feels wierd and atiny bit uncomfortable to be called the opposite sex to what you are. Even if you are being called that in the form of flattery (I was called a kickass girl about three days ago). It's not necessarily bad to be mistaken for a girl or vice versa, but Im sure youd prefer people didnt get it wrong.

In the absence of photographic evidence, just how does "female" become the default guess? :p

It is a shift in culture. It use to be that a genderless or unknown person would be called "he." Now, because of years of oppression or something, it has started going to "she."

Silly really. As "he" has less letters in.

Actually I care nothing either way, but maybe I'm the exception to the rule.

I guess I've assumed some genders of nations I've telegramed. Maybe it's the in the grammar/choice of vocabulary. I went the thespark.com and took the gender test and it came up that I am a guy. In fact, I'm more manly than 80% of the people who took the test. I am a girl in reality, so that's a bit disheartening. But I must say, I'd rather be a tomboy than a girly girl any day.

I have a tendency to assume everyone's female, but that's because certain other online circles I hang out in have something like a thirty-to-one female:male ratio (if, in fact, everyone's being honest about their gender, which may not be the case.)

There is actually a site somewhere around that takes samplings of text and analyses most likely gender of the author based on word choice. I found it to be correct a significant majority of the times I tried it, though it was interesting to note that a sampling from one of my RPG characters fooled it.

I'll have to see if I can find the link. Interesting stuff.

well in one forum I went to they did have one of the fields below post count and location as gender, which helped alot.
