I've noticed some Americans, particularly Armed Bookworms, differentiating between these two words. The only difference is the case of the first letter. But is there more difference?

ussually when people say democrat small d they mean someone who believes in democracy, a big D Democrat means they are a member of the party. I guess the same goes for liberals and members of the liberal party.

Thanks, but as for Michael Moore... political correctness and stupidity? Rather, brash generalisation and manipulation.
