Since the Bible is suppose to be real life events and what not, shouldn't there be someone updating it ....adding to it every now and then to better reflect the faiths history. Or does something like that already happen?

Well, seeing as how God hasn't been talking to anyone for a while and Jesus has been MIA for about as long, there's really not much to add. The Bible isn't really written about a certain faith, it's a record of God and Jesus' teachings.

Nope. The point of the Bible is to record enough stuff to get us through life in general. Notice that it doesn't include anything for the 400 years in between the Old and New Testaments, even though some intersting things were happening then. If we need specifics, God still speaks today, but the Bible is supposed to cover everyone for all time. No need for updates.

Since the Bible, in-of-itself, required true believers to write it, I'd assume there are no true believers today to finish the story.

Doesn't the Bible contain all one needs to know in order to decide whether to accept Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for sin?

The Book of Smeagol.

In a stunning admission that has polarised His supporters and opponents alike, God today claimed responsibility for the Asian tsunami which has claimed in excess of 100,000 lives.

In a carefully-worded statement, God admitted that the richter-9.0 quake was set off when he attempted some minor renovations to His Creation. "I was just touching up some of the edges, when I pushed a little too hard and the whole Blessed plate slid away," He said.

God reflected that the DIY renovations were probably a bit ambitious, even for Him, and that he should have called a licensed geophysicist or vulcanologist to do the job properly. "I know that I'm theoretically omnipotent, but sometimes these things just happen. It's a bit like removing picture hooks - you know, one little knock and a big chunk of plaster comes out," He said.

God admitted that the suffering inflicted by Him would cause many of the faithful to waver, but stressed that in times of darkness, His love was ever the greater. "Of course, I realise that since many of the victims were Hindus, Buddhists or even atheists, Heaven help them, they probably won't appreciate the gesture."

God has promised to look after the victims and give their souls sympathetic consideration on the Day of Judgement. "I may be a jealous God, but even I know when enough's enough," He added.

*stilling chuckling at smeagols post*

i suppose if you are of that turn of mind, you should check out the book of mormon. it is supposed to detail jesus's sojourn into north america after his ressurection (among other things)

plus there is a whole book of prophecies/revelations that i dont remember the name of that list things god told to the mormon prophets and they jotted down.

its not MY cup of tea but they are a big denomination and they seem to fit your desire for further revelations from god

Here's my addition for the modern bible

A man (could have been a woman) walked along the pavement, dodging left and right to avoid other pedestrians walking in the opposite direction. He was going to work. When he got to work, he sat at his desk for 4 hours, had some lunch, and went back and sat for 3 more hours. He then left work for the day and went home, walking, dodging, avoiding contact.
This continued for many years, until the man retired.
He died a few years after retiring.
Upon reaching heaven, he finds he has a desk, where he site for 7 hours a day, watching other people enjoy themselves.

there is no moral to this story, is is just random jibberish

Well actually you see it can't be updated everything is already in there. It talks about everything that has happened and is going to happen. If you would go to a church they could explian all

i find this more than a little amusing.

why do some people suppose that God spoke to some people, then stopped all of a sudden? what about the few hundred years between the last of the OT prophets and Jesus?
what about Mohammed?

IF God ever deigned to speak to anyone, why would he stop? It makes no sense at all. I realize that most of you self-identifying Christians will read this as a flame, but hell, you people make no sense. You pick and choose what you like from the OT, are inconsistent in relying on your biblical sources, and are forever opportunistic when reading out of context. Catholics barely touch the bible. To all Christians- more of your "faith" is the product of tradition than anything else anyway.

Actually, I don't think it's flamebait. I think that God still speaks, just not about things that should be written down as Holy Writ for the rest of the world. I credit God with giving me my current college major (philosophy). It sounds to me like you've been hanging out with the conservative branches for a little too long. Try hanging out with the Charismatics, and you'll hear a diferent story.
