All right you religiously savvy people I’m going through a search for god and the divine period. Help me if you can.

Seem to remember a whole heap of replies to this, which have strangely disappeared.

I will assume for the moment that this is not a miraculous occurence.

There have been numerous religions throught history, some of which have survived, some of which have not. I doubt if many today still worship Zeus, Mithras, Isis, or Huitzlopochtli (the supreme deity of the Aztecs associated with sun and fire) anymore.

And yet all religions claim that they alone possess ultimate truth.

Therefore, at least some of them have to be wrong, and merely the inventions of mankind.

If that is the case, then quite possibly all are mere inventions.

Why invent a god or gods? Denial of mortality features in all. The control of nature is common, with practices to ensure the seasons continue or the sun is "reborn" each day. And manipulation of fellow mankind is a wonderful little bonus.

To those who claim God is necessary as a "designer" of the Universe, please advise how tsunamis happen, why men have nipples, and why we all have an appendix. Are there design flaws?

Nope. All things happen as they are meant to, and designs are constantly changing and evolving. I think that all religions should be able to recognize this, and in my experience, devotees of many religions do recognize these truths.

But since when are you so uncertain, Black? While we all continue our quests for truth and try to refine our faith, I hadn't expected you to sponsor a battle...

Well, since the atheist hordes (not intended to be derogatory) will soon be showing up, let me put this in: There are many beautiful religions that I believe come close to the Truth, though I cannot say for certain that any are perfect. Just remember that Nihilism is not a way to live, only a way to exist. You don't have to choose any single religion, but it is vital to have some sort of base to work from. I think the one you already have is good enough, and you can take it from there. God bless.

The Principia Discordia (http://www.ology.org/principia/body.html) is an amusing read if you're cynical. I mean, the Law of Negative Reversal is all around us!

Your soul will be saved if you stop making these threads.

Might also help your case to slip me a few twenties.

In what way is Nihilism not a way to live, only to exist?

Is that just your way of asserting religion over atheism?

A kind of "I'm better than you, because I at least have a god" mentality?

I'm an atheist, and find such a concept ridiculous, but below being worthy of contempt.

What is it about some religious people that makes them think PRIDE is only a sin in other people?
