Hobbies, friends et cetera

I have no friends because I am a horrible person, so I'm going to get a hobby to try and meet people, but I don't know what yet. I don't think it's going to be throwing rocks at cars, but you never know. I may get tired of chasing them.

Anyway purusing hobbies got me thinking, what hobbies does everyone else do? I mean apart from trolling online... Not a lot of you seem like the model rail types, or the remote controlled cars and jig-saw puzzle types either. Ohh, and if it involves hitting a ball it's probably a sport, not a hobby.

Do any of you participate in any hobby which is especially conductive to meeting people?

Well, my hobby is researching the meaning of surnames.
Doesn't get me out much, but I have other hats I wear that do get me out so I'm ok there.

I bet you have diffrent hats to me, being in Canada and all. Yours are probably for heat retention, where as our (australia) is more for shade. You should add an Akubra to your collection. Excellent sunhats.

You could try DND or strategic war gameing. There's also Magic the card game. These are fairly popular with self loathers with little self confidence.

Who knows you may get together and start a computer company like Jobs, Gates, or Wazniack and end up billionaires. Buy trophy wives and track down and destroy me for calling you a "Self Loather".

Old radio, digging through archives. Gripping about and wallowing in pop culture, especially ones I was never a part of, like old radio dramas....

OK, before we go any further, please don't do the American thing of assuming that Canadians live in snowbound wastelands and reside in igloos because of the wall of ice that extends to the Canada/USA border.
I live in Vancouver, our climate is the same as Sydney.
Know many in Sydney that need "heat retention hats"
End of rant.

Spent a lot of time in Australia, its a great country and I look forward to the day I come back again. I had the honour of travelling all over your country.
Don't try to find a hobby based on meeting others, you need to find a hobby that fits your interests, get involved and the meeting new friends will follow naturally.
Take care mate.

I had to think of 5 ways to recycle a wooly hat for a "fun" homework last week.

Maybe that could be your hobbie. :D

Thanks for all of your suggestions, I'll take them into account. I suggested bird watching to my partner, and that was shot down, so I suggested shooting, but then again I'm not too sure if it's safe to let someone like that hold a gun.

As for the Canadian with the hats, sorry, I had no idea how warm Canada is! Or come to it how cold it must get down in Sydney (we live in the tropical north). Today it's 33C or 100F and 97%+ humidity, no need for warmth retaining hats here.

P.S. That's quite cool in this part of the world if anyone is wondering, the hottest I have experienced is 44.5C which is almost halfway to water's boiling point.
