What an absolute **** this guy is - if guilty. Why would somebody do this?

Wow, he's like a Super Troll. You almost have to admire him in a way that makes you want something really bad to happen to him.

That's terrible. Lotta bored, mean ass freaks out here in the world.

I'm sure his new cell mates will more than oblige in this respect.

On the other end I would have issues believing an @aol.com account would be a government email … but maybe I just know computers too much

On the other hand, he's given those families a whole new hope! ;)

Probably not the wisest decision someone's ever made. Having said that, if someone just went on the word of an AOL address, any offense is their own damn fault.

You can mask return addresses. The recipients may not have seen that it came from an AOL address.

Or, you're paying more attention, since, and im assuming here, that you aren’t waiting for a loved one to come home from that area? The small discrepancies would shoot right by someone stricken with grief. As it happens, I agree with you, I have to highly doubt that an official government office, much less the British government, are going to use America online to send their official emails.

Besides, its the small stuff that 9/10's of people miss, and get scammed, and it only takes one person, doing exactly what you did, to be alert and notice the inconsistencies, and help bring these people down

Disgusting beyond belief and then he trys to excuse the inexcuseable by saying that they ( the bogus emails ) were the results of a series of tragedies in his life.

GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

What the f*ck do "Personal family tragedies* have to do with spamming other people, and telling them that their children/parents/wives/husbands etc.... are dead? He is absolute scum, of the lowest kind.

I think it was funny. Seriously, I do. And I do volunteer work for charity so don't judge me.

And maybe the guy had a really crappy life, if so you can't really blame him.

True, you would have to be a bit of an idiot to believe him.

Yeah … though I still feel for the families … hope none of them fell for it.

Though I am sure there are more then a few little ol ladies that would fall for it. (not sayin its bad to be little or ol but less likely to catch the aol part)

how the hell can tradgedies in someones personal life give them cause to cause even more upset to people who are already going through hell?

a much better "cry for help" here would have involved a noose and his neck.

Lol thanks for the praise about being attentive… and I agree a lot would not be paying attention.

Not saying what he did is any more right but yeah (don’t know where I was going with this)

Though I don’t want to “misunderestimate” his stupidity for SIGNING up for an aol account (you need a valid credit card and name) and then doing this sort of act

Did he not think he would be traced? Hell ya want to do something like that you make a series of fake mail addresses at some place like hotmail or such. (not going to get into proxy server bouncing)

Or hell throw up a SMTP server yourself or bounce it off an open one

They could have sent the mail as whatever they wanted (spoofed it as lets say ForeignOffice@uk.gov) lol

Oh well glad he did not figure out those tricks… might not have caught him

Who honestly cares? There are a lot bigger problems in the world than the temporary distress of a handfull of middle class idiots*

The millions affected by the tsunami spring to mind, or the millions that die directly from poverty each year, but of course no-one gives a damn about that :)

*"Omgwtflolbbq, my relative is dead because this email from an aol address said so." Don't quite a lot of people have trouble accepting a death when they see the body with their own two eyes? Oh, but then again an email said so...

No I'm not intentionally a troll, just strongly opionated :D
