She got caught for insider trading, that's all. They're making an example of her, because she's worth a lot, did something tiny, and now sentence her to jail. She got a talk show from NBC out of it, so, I guess that's not too bad.

It's my opinion that out of all the choices in the pool of CEOs with questionable practices that Martha Stewart was singled out as a successful woman and a Democrat. I don't care for her personal attitude and demeanor towards her subordinates but I find it notable that she gets homed in over the ImClone debacle faster than the government has gotten around to prosecuting Ken Lay, Bernard Ebbers or Dennis Kozlowski (whom I feel will receive either an acquittal or a pardon in their respective cases.)

I'd agree with mostly the rich white girl being the thing that singled her out as example. The woman's a genius AND was a stock broker; I'd think she'd know how to play the system without getting caught if she really wanted to... but in all honesty, she's already rich, why risk it for the minutaue of stock she sold?

the part that bothers ME is that she was NEVER EVEN CHARGED with insider trading. the government charged her with stock manipulation because she publicly declared her innocence. (this charge got tossed out by the judge) they charged her with lying to the FBI because she delared her innocence to them in an interview. (she may have gotten convicted of this one i dont remember) she got convicted on a couple of the BS minor charges that you always get hit with when the government makes a case against you and tries to charge you with everything possible so as to maximize the sentence.
i think she got caught in the anti-rich-and-powerful hysteria that came after the net bubble burst and the enron scandal hit. as if selling a few thousands in stocks is as bad as causing the california energy crisis.

she probably didnt know. why would she ever think of WHO makes her clothes? not that that excuses her but almost ALL clothing is made by people who are being taken advantage of in some way or other.

Reports from her staff also places her as a control freak. She's in jail for Stock Manipulation and lying to the court. They couldn't bring insider Trading but they did tag her for the other stuff... which is why it's so short. Because of her conviction, I believe, she lost control of her empire.

I hate the woman...but i too see the irony of her conviction before and, possibly, in place of that of Ken Lay, etc.

she became somebody(bigtime) thanks to CNN/FOX...and now is ready to make milion$$$ in book deals...
American Networks need white trash news...to make up for unavaliable Live War footage...
They cant keep retooling Aljazeera/BBC/AFP/freePress video all the time....

Sorry to Martha Stewart if she is reading. As for KLG, I think she damn well should have known where and how her clothes were being made. It's a stain on her conscience (or should be, if she has one), especially now that she knows and still has exploited third-world children making them.
