What do you do with bills??

I have one and I don't know whether I should spend it, or keep it, or if its some sort of novelty item I should feel glad that I have it.

So what is the deal with $2 bills? Are they like collectors items or nothing special?

And... I'm about to go into town and get a hot chocalate or something and was thinking I might bring it along for some change.

I cleanse them of evil in a ritual involving the blood of a ram and Pine-Sol. Then I strap them into bundles, place them in a watertight container and throw them into a peat bog with a weight attached to them. I carefully mark the location down and when the Statute of Limitations has expired, I trek through the marshes and recover the money.

I usually spend it on peanut butter cups.

There's nothing special about the $2 bill. It's certainly the least common US currency denomination, but (contrary to common belief and some urban legend) the bill is still printed when circulation numbers fall too low and very few are collectors items.

Unless your $2 bill is a mint condition 1976 edition (the year they were reintroduced) it isn't worth a penny over two bucks. Even the 1976's aren't worth much since more than 600 million of them were printed.

Oh, and anyone who wants a $2 bill can walk into any major US bank and trade two $1 bills for a $2 bill at any time.

I'd invest in bringing down NewsCorp. I would begin work on my own media empire... muwhahahahaha! New Zealand owned JRV Corp vs. Australian owned NewsCorp... sounds good to me. I just need the actual money :(.

Can I have yours?

Once I taped a $2 bill to somebody's back in a restaurant. It was just one of those things that you think is a profound idea at the moment.

Then later, you realize that you should wait until you are baseline enough to form a coherent sentence before doing anything in a restaurant, much less taping a $2 bill to somebody's back.

Oh well, at least the poor guy got $2 out of it...

Facts About $2 Notes
blank

* The first $2 notes (called United States Notes or "Legal Tenders") were issued by the Federal Government in 1862 and featured a portrait of the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton (1789-1795).

* The first use of Thomas Jefferson's portrait on $2 notes was on Series 1869 United States Notes. The same portrait has been used for all series of $2 United States Notes as well as for all $2 Federal Reserve Notes.

* Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's estate in Virginia, was first featured as the vignette on the back of the Series 1928 $2 United States Note.

* In celebration of the United States' bicentennial, a $2 Federal Reserve Note, Series 1976, was introduced. The new design maintained the portrait of Jefferson on the face but the back was changed from Monticello to a vignette of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

* Vignette on the Back of the Current $2 Federal Reserve Note
The $2 Federal Reserve Note features an engraving of John Trumbull's painting "The Signing of the Declaration of Independence." The original Trumbull painting portrayed 47 people, 42 of whom were signers of the Declaration (there were 56 total). However, because of a limited amount of space on the note, 5 of 47 men in the painting were not included in the engraving.

Oh ... and if you keep a $2 bill, saving it as a collector's item ... in 10 years, it will be worth ... $2! .... in 50 years, it will be worth ... $2! ... in 1,000 years, it will be worth ... $2!

In this day and age of unpredictable market fluctuations and all that chaos, that sounds like a nice, stable investment.

So what you're saying is that if someone had a perfectly kept gold coin from 1000 years ago it would only be worth how much it was coined at? And all those rare coins people collect are pointless because they still print nickels, pennies, and dimes? omg I should never have screwed that guy on that $50 coin I sold, it was after all only a quarter.

The $2 bill may not be worth anything in the near future, but it could hold sentimental meanings, or you could just collect them for the hell of it. I'd personally put at least one away to say, I have one of those.

I have about 60 $2 bills. I collect money and coins. I get them at the bank all the time, and I keep them locked up in a safety deposit box at the bank.

I think I have one pressed in a book... Found it once and thought to myself 'Wow, it wasn't that long ago that our money worth two dollars was PAPER... Bizarre.' Thankgoodness for toonies. And loonies. All those damn one dollar notes are a bloody hassle! Especially when you try and put 'em in vending machine things. :D

Australia stopped using $1 and $2 banknotes in the 1990s, and changed them to coins. Most aren't worth more than $2, but a few are quite valuable by signature of treasurer (dependent on the condition of the banknote)!

I've done that before. Interesting business. I tell them it's still being minted as legal tender, but they buy it anyway. I guess they like collecting...

Well, I make sure to tell them that it's not that rare and is still being minted, but apparently they're still willing to pay the extra dollar just to collect it without having to go to the bank. Eh. ~shrug~
