Did anyone else hear them on Jools Holland? Does anyone know where I can get a copy of their version of "smells like teen spirit"?

Dammit, doesn't anybody watch Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny? Or were you all just unimpressed by their ukelele skills?

They don't show it here. But if you do find it on the 'net, please post the link. Cause I for one am interested in hearing it.

Meh. I googled it and they do have an official site, although their media section is still under construction. They have quite an interesting discography, though. I wanna hear the ukelele version of the Timewarp!

I feel sorry for that guy out of Shaun of The Dead, the other celebreties were bullying him when he was talking about his new movie.

Don't worry, he probably told Bill Nighy, who's going to have a word with their parent's.

Actually, my first reaction was the one that a random celeb made just after, which refers to Kurt Cobain spinning in his grave. But I suppose they were kinda cool, in a Weird Al sort of way.
Man, I find Jools Holland annoying! His voice, his on-screen presence, it just winds me up. He's a talented musician, if only he'd shut up while he played, and all the rest of the time as well!

No way! Maybe it's because I've watched his show since I was young, but I think he has a fantastic presenting style. He is a good musician, though. I had no idea he could play the guitar as well as the piano.

Wasn't it Dom Joly who made the comment about Kurt Cobain? Pretty random.

I didn't see the Jools Holland last night, but I know where you can get a copy of it... try this BT site: http://www.uknova.com/

I remember the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain from the late 80s - the late lamented John Peel was in the habit of spinning their cover of Born To Be Wild every now and again.

Hands up if anyone else here plays the uke... ah, so that's just me then.

You need to sign up for it. When I tried to sign up it said the site wasn't for public use.

By the way, I tried to learn the ukelele once. Got a cheap one, pissed about with it for a couple of days, decided that being a musician wasn't for me. I gave it to a mate to play the song from Deliverance on it.

Strange: when I signed up for it there was no problem. It could well be that they have decided on a limit of users and have reached that number.

Strange: there are few stringed instruments easier to play than the uke, but if you aren't in the right frame of mind for learning it, then I guess it isn't dfor you.

Interestingly enough the tune from Deliverance has a noteworthy history: the director of the film had heard the tune and thought that it was an old-time traditional piece, and so just included it in the film, but it later transpired that it was a fairly recently composed piece, called Feuding Banjos, not Dueling Banjos. The composer, Arthur Smith, took the company to court following the release of the soundtrack LP, and finally won the royalties from the performance of his 1955 tune.

Yeah, my problem is that I can never be bothered with lessons. I always try to teach myself, which doesn't really work for me.

Heck, it hardly gets any easier than the uke:
