'From one end to another, Leupueng has vanished as if it never existed'

It is not easy to obliterate an entire town. Something should always be left standing, a mosque, a concrete shed or a toughly-built storeroom which the survivors can shelter beneath and make a nucleus around which to rebuild.

But Leupueng has been obliterated. Of this town of 10,000 people, nothing vertical and square-edged is left. From one end to another, Leupueng and most of its inhabitants have vanished as if they never were.http://www.guardian.co.uk/tsunami/story/0,15671,1381830,00.html

That is so scary... nothing left...

Oooh yes, look how tragic it is. Look, we've all seen this on the news for the last few days, can't people just move on to other things now?

I've seen survey pictures of several of the areas hit on the news. The topography of a lot of those areas is completely changed. Aerial views are almost completely unrecognizable.

It reminds us whether you are the USA or Fiji, how powerful your nation does not really matter. God (or mother nature) is more powerful than any nation on this planet. This type of event has happened before time after time in history.

Yawn, more dead people. *scratches balls, starts watching cartoons*

Are you serious?

Tell me, when Janet Jackson accidentally flashed her breast, did you have this same reaction to the media commentary on it? I guess not.

Like what? Scott Peterson, Britney Spears, violence at sporting events? This disaster needs to be kept to the forefront in the news to keep it fresh in peoples' minds. If not, we'll forget how much they need our help. Also, a lot of people all over the world depend on news reports as they had friends and family that were in that area. With death and lost estimates of half a million being made this makes our other news interests pretty mundane.

Perhaps YOU can, since you seem to lack any vestige of sympathy, but many of us will need to have a period of grieving for this loss of such an incredible number of our brothers and sisters. Perhaps you can control your selfishness long enough to allow us to discuss this here if we want, although I somehow doubt it.
