Well... part of me wants to nominate the whole cast of Nothing Constructive to the panel, but since maybe 50 people ever have played the (independently produced, by a friend of six years) game (for ZZT, at that), I can only justify using one of them. Though, when I get my laptop back, I can e-mail/IM it to anyone who likes (just message me ingame/catch me on AIM after tuesday), so you'll know why this game justified using an empty CD to copy about 300Kb.

1: Zanno, from Nothing Constructive (ZZT)-conversation with the Pirate guy
2: Sven T.Uncommon, from Popful Mail (SegaCD)-Calls you a "Whining Pile of Diaper Paste."
3: Elven Chaotic Mage, class 4, from Dark Wizard(Sega CD)- Can cast Volcano & Fire Bolt, Which quickly become Summon Fire Elemental & summon Earth elemental, which can kill anything on the map, from a full day's march.
4: Fwiffo, from SC2- Ask him about himself. And he'd give you access to the most cost-effective ships if you threatened him with a cucumber.
5: Nina, from BoF- Along with making the future Ninas useless out of raw animal lust and kicking ass herself, she has one of three memorable lines scenes in the game (though, King Giant's scene steals the show, and Alan/Cerl's, while artificial rehashed sentimentality, is exactly the way it should be done.)

Honorable mention to Alexis from Brandish for making me piss myself, and later forgive her, when I was 8, & the BGMusic for Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, which would have taken third if it were an actual character. The possibility of new music is the only thing that keeps you playing past that three towers puzzle just before elfland, and entering the sunken fortress makes it all seem worthwhile...

I read on the Elder Scrolls forums about an idea someone had of enchanting Fargoth's ring with healing, paralysis, and fire spells, all on self, so that once he put it on, he'd be burning to death, not dying, and not be able to take the ring off. Instant hell.

My little neice use to play that game alot. He was a cute toon. Reminded me of Sonic just no where near as fast.

When I was younger I played Pac-Man, Vangaurd, Donkey Kong, Frogger & Contra.
Then Mario... Twisted Metal, Madden, Diablo and Command & Conquer.
Now I just play Warcraft and occasionally EQ.

And the number one game character ever:

1. Minsc. Baldur's Gate I and II. This guy had it all: the badass skills, the great catchphrases, like:

"Jump on my sword while you can, evil! I won't be as gentle!"
"GO FOR THE EYES, BOO!! YAHH!"
"Boo is quick and evasive and there is ever so much of Minsc to search that we will never be seperated!"
"I do not understand what you just said, but Boo thinks you are just ducky! Onward!"
"Boo is outraged! He's small so you have to look close! Trust me, it's there!"

And last but not least, if you noticed in his catchphrases, he refers to a "Boo" a lot. Boo in this case is his hamster. Yes, that's right, a man who can bend iron bars with his bare hands and is about 7 feet tall spends most of his time listening to the advice of his hamster. But not just any hamster; Boo is actually a miniature giant space hamster. He's just disguised very well. . .no seriously.

With a character like that, it should be no surprise that he is an absolute blast to have in your party.

Zhou Tai of Dynasty Warriors (For his cool unlockable costume, nice "I'm a bad-ass attitude." and the fact that he could slice an enemy soldier about 100 times before their body even hit the ground.)

Father Estaban Cortez of Hunter: The Reckoning (Coolest. Priest. Ever.)

1: Janus Zeal / Magus / Magil, from Chrono Trigger and Radical Dreamers. There's no better character, as far as I'm concerned. Extremely deep, well-written, dark, and has the best theme song ever. It's a shame the development team for Chrono Cross changed his character (Guile) into some faceless wandering magician. Having his backstory tied into it would've made it perfect.

2: Glenn / Frog, also from Chrono Trigger. A very deep character with a very good theme song (Magus' theme is still better).

3: Samus Aran. Why? Chozo Power Suits are better than you.

4: Melfice, from Grandia II. Play the game to see why I listed him, and you'll understand.

5: Siegfried / Nightmare, from the Soul Blade / Soul Calibur series. He's just an ordinary kid (with a massive German Zweihander sword) who accidentally killed his dad, went totally insane, found Soul Edge, and became the grotesque Nightmare.

I agree Ritlina, Kane was very cliche. I was watching some of the cutscenes in the game and kind of laughed at how corny they where. I guess he just appeals to the ego-maniac in me or something.

As for Magus, well Chrono Trigger was one of the first RPGs I ever played, and Magus was probably the first true bad-ass I had seen in a game. (Next to Frog maybe.)

What makes him special is that he's a burned-out badass. Read the true translation (parts can be found on GameFAQs), and you'll see just how much better his character is when he hasn't been translated by that idiot, Ted Woolsey.

You really should. It's almost like a totally different game with the correct translation. For instance:

Ozzy, Flea, and Slash are "Binegar", "Mayone", and "Soyso". It's a play on words for three condiments: Vinegar, Mayonnaise, and Soysauce. They did a better job on the translation of Chrono Cross, with the characters "Salt" and "Pepper". This is just one of the many things Woolsey fucked up.

The Masamune is the "Grandleon". The two brothers are "Grand" and "Leon", and their sister is "Drean", a play on the word "Dream", which is what the three characters are: Dreams.

And this is the scene with Cyrus and Glenn fighting Magus, taken from the GameFAQs translation differences guide:

Notice how Magus uses none of that ridiculous Vegeta-speech. Oh, and "Maou" is Japanese for "Demon/Wizard King", so "Magus" is pretty much a direct translation (Wizard King). The suffix "Sama" is used like "Sir". So, Binegar is pretty much saying "Sir Magus".

Just from glancing over some of the translations on GameFAQs shows alot of difference. It's a true same they thought they had to do this in the name of PC and making it more appealing to kids. Honestly, they probably could have found quite an audience amongst older gamers if they had left it as is.

It'd be nice if they ever did something like a director's cut for CT. But the realist in me says it'll never happen.
