What State are You From?

This question's mostly for the US of Americans here... but I'll try to expand it to include as many people as possible.
What state (or province for Canadians) are you from, and what do you think of it there?
And since I'm curious, if anyone can tell me where Old Jersey is, it'd be much appreciated.
I'm from the New Jersey, which I think gets a bad rap for being one giant petrochemical refinery. It's really not. Where I live we actually have gardens too. There's a lot of nice stuff in NJ, I mean it's no grand vacation spot, but it's not Hell-on-Earth either.
Reminds me of a map of the US I once saw, where each state had a little illustration on it relating to the state... Georgia had a peachtree, Florida had a nice sun, you know what New Jersey had? A factory with giant smokestacks. Real nice.
I say we should bring an end to this Anti-New Jerseyan persecution.

Jersy is in the United Kingdom, it is Jersy Island.
The only reason New Jersy has a 'New' infront of it, is due to british settlers not coming up with an original name for the area :p, like New York or New England.
California
and for future reference...we are all NOT blonde, white, tanned, and surfers. Hell, I don't even KNOW a surfer and I live 50, maybe 60 miles from the beach. We do have an abundance of Hispanics.
And no, we are not all sucking the fruits of Hollywood...we're leeching off the fruits of plants.
Know what I see whenever I find pictures of different states with a picture that goes with them? I see an old man looking for gold. That's just great...we're all smelly, old, crazy men looking for gold.
Hell, the new quarter of ours coming this year won't help at all.

Interesting factoid for most of you; New York wasn't always New York. It was actually originally settled by the Dutch and was named New Amsterdam.
I was born in Georgia, lived in Ohio for twelve years, lived in California for two, and been in Colorado since August of 2002.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada! I can't think of a place I'd rather live. It's clean, crime rate is low. My son goes to a school where the teachers actually care and he only has 21 other students in his class. People are polite on the most part and I can leave my door unlocked. Ottawa is simply beautiful. It's Canada's capital, so we have fabulous buildings that look of old European design. (major plus) We have the world's largest out-door skating rink. (The Canal)
However, next to here.. Tahiti sounds pretty good too! :D

Jersey's one of the Channel Islands (the other being Guernsey). They're actually much, much closer to the North coast of France than to Britain, and although they're British territory, they're technically not part of the UK. Not sure how that works to be honest, it sounds slightly schizophroenic to me.

A constant negative to anywhere in Canada would be the cold. That's why one of it's nicknames is "The great white north"

New Ice Age aside, I'd rather be somewhere cold than here in Southern Arizona. Heat Stroke anyone? That's from April to October. Then in November through March, the days are pleasant, and the nights are so very cold that all of our resident homeless people die of hypothermia. I like the cold more, never the less, as you can bundle up for warmth, but there's only so much you can legally take off.

Northen California.
Where the gold was. So that image makes sense for up here. But not the film industry, though Skywalker Ranch is like an hour and a half away-but that hardly makes us Hollywood.
I know surfers, but I'm on the beach, so.....and in Santa Cruz....

Let's see. Born in Arizona (Davis Monthan Air Force Base, the airplane graveyard.) Lived in Oklahoma, Texas, California, Washington, South Carolina, Massachusetts and West Virginia (where I currently live.)
Also spent several of my formative years in Germany, Italy, England, Japan and Saudi Arabia. Traveled to Iraq and Kuwait once, a bit more than a decade ago, if you get my meaning.
Gotta love a military upbringing.

I really like it here, especially in Phoenix. Its not a crowded as New York and Los Angeles, but its not insignificant also. Its in the middle. Yay to suburban life, cacti, and coyotes!

Coyotes--anyone who pronounces that word as Caiyoht deserves to be shot--aren't all that great. Try having a pack of seven of them howling like banshees right outside your bedroom window.

Coyotes, especially desert coyotes, are quite common in Arizona, therefore that is why I've mentioned it. I doesn't mean I like them. In fact, they're considered nuisances because they tend to eat domestic pets and they obsessively howl when they find water.

..., which I think gets a bad rap for being one giant petrochemical refinery...If I recall, the oil companies are in Port Reading, Sewaren, Woodbridge, Perth Amboy, and Sayreville.

And in response to the cajun vs. creole thing . . . isn't 'cajun' slang for arcadian (Arcadia), which refers to a region in Quebec (if I'm not wrong)?

WOW! I think that this is probably the first time I have ever seen more that one person from New Jersey in a forum. *shakes head* scary! But totally cool, too. I'm a Chicago girl born and bred. Not exactly wonderful, but it's pretty good. I mean, our crime rate sucks, our schools suck, our economy sucks, our air is terrible (but expected in a big city)...but other then that, what can I say. The girls are nice?
