I heard a snippet of a conversation on the radio recently that mentioned the possibility of solving Haiti's problems by making it a US protectorate. WTF?

The second problem is that no one wants to be invaded by the US. Even if they're there to help.
NFW. No way. I wouldn't do it.
We should pull out whoever's left there and let the place run itself. Some happy day, perhaps 1000 years from now, everything will be peachy there.

Well, first we drop a few nukes and get rid of the natives, then we drill hole in the glass and plant mines.
Thus Haiti is protected.

No link, but the regime in place doesn't have legitimacy with many of the people and there are armed rebels running around having fun.

It's easy to sum up.
Nation with no natural resources, completely illiterate impoverished population with successive decades of corrupt governments that plunder what little wealth the nation ever collects.
Any questions on how to fix that? Or ideas?
