Animal Shelters

A lot of people want a puppy when they have a dog. But why?

In animal shelters everywhere there are great dogs just waiting for a new owner. Great dogs, who now get too little attention, even though volunteers do their best it's hard to take care of so many dogs. Why not give one of them a new life? You'll get a grateful new friend.

My favorite in the shelter where I work:

I'd consider it. I want a big dog, like a weimeriner. (Spelling, I know)

My parents adopted an adult german shepard mix from a shelter when I was a kid. It was the coolest dog in the neighborhood.

Puppy's are cute, adorable and stupid.

Thats why people have small dogs.

My mom bought a boston terrier because she was small...

It's also fun working in an animal shelter as volunteer :D

Today:
I got to play with Mikey, my favorite dog, who's a little troublemaker, but is always very sweet to me.
Gijs, another dog, grabbed his waterbowl (all of them are metal there) from my hand and ran around the field teasing me with it. He also today managed to grab a hold of one of the leashes and a towel. Sweet dog, just way too much energy :p

An old lady brought some dog stuff from her old dog, including food and everything, because the dog died and she couldn't bear having the stuff around anymore. Poor lady had to cry, but it was very nice of her to give us the stuff.
My dad's dog who I took with me there because my parents are on vacation (a 5 months old Malinois) managed to destroy a towel.

As for the rest, a lot of dogs who love us for giving them their food, clean cages and scratches behind the ears and playing with the ball and walking them/putting them on the fields.

When I'm older, and have my own place, I'd like to adopt older dogs. The ones that might only have three or so years left to live, but need a good home to pass those years in. Cats too.

I also want younger animals. I figure I'll have an average of four pets in my house at all times throughout my life. ;)

But anyway, my heart breaks everytime I visit the animal shelters and see all of those older dogs and cats. They look like such lost souls. *sniffs* So I vow to adopt them all!

I love dogs. Aihss. Sadly I'll be going overseas soon. When I have my own house with a nice garden (it's utter cruelty to have a dog in a small closed area), I'm going to have a Golden Retreiver and a German Shepard.

Why are we not sending these stupid mutts to rendering plants? We have a shortage of glues and lubes...

Some of the pretty things you see in the shelter, is like this time when we had a 12 year old yorkshire terrier, with only 2 teeth left. and he still got a new owner. :D

But when you have the entire ADN going against you, you won't be so lucky.

Jayastan, it's easy to talk tough on a MB, but in RL if ya talk the talk gotta walk the walk...and Jayastan how would it feel to hear some one say ..."Oh he's not cute any more, I don't want to be bothered with him."

I have done volunteer work with several groups over the years. The older animals, especially the older ones that have been abandoned, have always been absolute sweethearts.

I like all the dogs in the shelter, each with their unique character and their own story.

Alliance Defense Network. One of the most powerful alliances in NationStates (I'd estimate over a hundred, maybe over two hundred members). And most of them are pet lovers.

Got our cat from an animal shelter 3 days before it was to be put down. Now hes happy and fat. We got our dog from a breeder though, portugese water dog, not very smart but very nice natured.

luckily not all shelters work like that, where i work the dogs are either allowed to stay till they find a new owner, no matter how long it takes, or till they die of old age.

of course, it's best for the dogs if they find new owners, but this shelter only puts down dogs that suffer a lot and can't be healed, or those who are so aggressive no one can handle them.
