See??? What did I tell you??? NOBODY CARED!!! It was "just" a rat, so where's your precious animal cruelty laws? Rats can be cuddly and very smart and cats can be viscious and dumb as bricks, but "normal" people do not give rats to their children as pets, so private citizens can kill them by the dozens by any means they like and NOBODY FUCKING CARES!!!

...fucking hypocrites...

I have a pet rat. Smarter than most cats I know, too.

Actually, you can get hit for animal cruelty on rats... It's just not likely to come up unless it's a pet rat. The only animals they really care about are ones that are "cute". Most people don't consider rats stunningly cute (at least not wild ones).

Then again, people holding double standards is really nothing new. Face it, most of human history has been chock full of double/triple standards, hypocracies, etc.

Is there something else going on in the world this week?

Anywhere? :headbang: :fluffle:  :mp5:

Surely thats acceptable as rats are classed as vermin.

PETA aren't hypocrites, they stand up for any and all animals. Sometimes to the point of being bastards, but they do it.

Never heard them complaining about the treatment of cockroaches. They're animals too. As are fleas, tapeworms, mosquitos and a host of other lifeforms that are generally considered objectionable.

So animal cruelty to vermin is not a crime? Bullshit! It's just not prosecuted as such because of the rank double standard that our society has for "cuddly" animals. And the Wal-Mart cat could be classed as vermin too.

What consitutes "vermin" depends on who you ask. "Vermin" really, just means "animals we think of as pests".

The thing is, is finding an animal annoying good enough reason to justify cruelty? Is the intentional infliction of more pain than is necessary ever jusified?

Given the health risks that are associated with wild rats, their elimination from certain places is justified. But it should be done as humanely as possible. (ie live-trapping where feasable, painless poisons otherwise)

Aren't they the ones that drive around in their cars, wearing normal clothing, and ranting about treating animals right, yet by driving their cars they increase pollution in the air and water ways, the washing machines they wash their clothes in dump their waste water into nature, and still they do it.

Wouldn't it make more sense if they showed that animals had rights by not driving their cars, and using very generic clothing that could be cleaned without the need of extra soups and startches, and don't have to have vats of dye used to make them?

I think everybody on the earth is a hypocrite from some point of view or perspective. Its human nature.

Oh yeah, I don't really like PETA anyway, they made it so I can't buy fish after 10pm, the time I normally have free time, because fish have to sleep.

Americans donate more money to Animal Rights organizations than to Human Rights organizations.

What does that tell you about Americans?

Rats = vermin.

Pet rats = pets.

It's not rocket science.

I did a search on the web, all I've found is this..... http://matewan.squarespace.com/journal/2004/12/30/wal-mart-cares-about-cats-not-employees.html

Thats a cat not a rat.

They couldve easily called the humane society I guess. If there was an incident with a rat, would the humane society do anything about that?

Aww, poor kitty. In a storage area. In a country where you can get sued for less.

Hey, not everyone likes cats. And if it's feral then it's nothing more than a slightly more aggressive rat with bigger teeth, sharper claws and a tendency to be less choosy about where it takes a crap. Although having said that, talk about an overreaction. I'm pretty sure that shooing the cat off with a broom and clearing the place out and getting a lock on the container in future would have been more advizable and logical than the gunning down of a small mammal...

It's a joke on the news story about the cat.

I know I am being a total ass pipe right here, but are you saying that it's fine and dandy to kill animals? How would you feel if I speared a Panda through the throat with a trident? Or perhaps kick a puppy with a steel-toed boot?

Ye might be rubbing me the wrong way, but that's what you're coming off as to me. Or are you angry that not all animals that are killed are not followed with lawsuits?

(I am also against the killing on all animals, rat, cat, panda, or puppy.)

You got it, buckwheat. I am mad about the double standard. Animal cruelty against rats is no less bad than that against cats. One gold star for you.

Thats right, PETA has staged protests at Walmart headquarters before, until walmart said they wouldn't sell fish after 10pm at night, allowing for the fish to sleep.

I was talking to one of the managers about it. Walmart higher ups had sent out a Memo, I guess there had also been PETA protests at some Walmart stores too. But I guess since fish have to sleep...Though I wonder if carrying them home in plastic bags is any worse at night or day. At least at night they don't have to deal with the sun lol

:D

I'll tell you what... I'd like to see a lot more wild elephants and tigers in Britain and the USA. I think it would be hilarious...

Manager: there's a cat in the storage locker out back. Go get rid of it. With a gun.

Employee: Uh. OK... but isn't it, like, actually an effing big tiger? Are you sure a .22 pistol will do the trick and not just really piss it off?

Manager: do you want your paycheck this month?

Employee: I'll get the gun...
