This is because I'm sick of people having a dick waving contest on other threads about which contry donated the most. I'm sick of people talking about other counries then theirs being stingy. And after all this, none of these people seem to have donated themselves.

I'm still waiting. Prove me wrong.

I haven't criticised countries, though I have commented elsewhere on people that claim to be unable to donate due to lack of funds, yet spend a few hundred euros on fireworks...
If that counts: aye.

aye, but I have blamed my own country of stinginess...People seem to care more though. Norway and Denmark have been very generous. and Spain. Other countries donate more all the time. It's actually looking pretty good at the moment (a bit inappropriate thing to say...). Aid organisations have been surprised how much money they've gotten this far.

I was flying back from holiday and donated all my holiday money that was left over. But in reality it was only about £2, so as soon as my wages clear, I'm donating again. I felt really stingy once I'd seen the extent of the disaster.

I dontated about $12.50USD, not much but I know if enough people donated that much it'll be alot.

aye, I've donated.

The whole thing started with an unfortunate comment taken the wrong way by CNN. As always, the spin has taken a life of it'S own.

I've not said that any other country is stingy, but have commented on how Spain and Britain are noble for donating far more than is expected and how the US will probably donate most eventually but it's no reason to boast since it's all about what the country can afford. I've also donated £25. So...aye I guess?

Aye

I donated €30 euro to Red Cross yesterday.

I don't think I've done much finger pointing at "stingy" nations though (except for my own government). I'm grateful that these nations gave money to help.

Well, be a dick, it's your right i guess.

When i first saw this thread, it's topic didn't mention any incident. Now it's fairly certian what was meant.

Yes I donated. $50 to the UN World Food Program yesterday.

No, I haven't commented on other countries, only my own.

Most countries take care of their economies in different ways. Taxes collected from people make up a large portion of the donations countries make.

I wonder what the per capita spendatures on aid would be if you combine the private and public donations in each country. Wouldn't that be the fairer way of looking at this whole thing?

I'm too tired to look for myself. Night all.

EDIT

BTW I'm too poor to donate. Saving up for college. Can't spare a dime :(

So that is how they do it but not how the US does it.

yea it probably would but then, the US would be in the lead there too because we are a nation that gives.

I'm too tired to look for myself. Night all.

Aye - I donated, if bi-weekly payroll deduction of $ 20 to the Red cross counts, and if it doesnt I am planning to send $ 50 when I get my next paycheck.

No - I havent complained

Yes - I have defended America's initial donation, probubly because it was so small. I knew that Sec. Colin Powell said that US aid would likely rise to over a billion dollars but that first pledge of $ 35 million was a bit embarrassing.

Aye, I donated.

I think western countries are stingy in general (ie in the absence of a natural disaster, there are still humanitarian disasters taking place all the time) but when it comes to this particular disaster, I think the donations have been good. Let's see if the west donate an early warning system once all the relief work is over...

Surely this would be better as a poll?

1) Go Japan.
2) Go US.
3) Go the rest of the world.

With 2 billion rolling in from around the world, and 850 million of it from the two nations mentioned, I think the financial costs of trying to help are well covered -- the problem now remains manpower in distributing emergency supplies and getting bodies dealt with before disease decimates the rest of the populations affected.
