Hey lads this is a community driven project to get more people into Planetside after a major blunder by the SOE and the Planetside Developers.(Namely the Implementation of Stuff the community didnt want at the detriment of that which we were crying out for)
However we love this game and new blood is important so a major blitz of all possibly interested game forums is occuring. If you have any interest in the game please joining up for the 7 day trial and see if you like it,There are many players who will help you out in your first step in the game.

Sorry man,but I cant find a rule in the "General Forum Rules" sticky against this. However if the mods want to lock it then they should,I realise this is advertising for a game for free and Jolt might even Advertise this game themselves however since the SOE PR machine is focused on EQII the PS community has no choice,If PS becomes a loss for SOE it will be dropped which would be terrible for the Community itself.

Sorry, the "Pay $60 up front and keep paying $15 a month" method of gaming doesnt appeal. Plus people here are NS addicts, if they leave their computers for more than a day they start to think they really are national leaders, and thus start threatening to 'N00k joo!'.

too right

its like "Hey, you can buy this game for $50 and play for a month on our server for free, and hey! if you like it, you can pay us $15 each month to keep playing then if you really want to play, pay us another $30 every time we release an expansion pack!"

why people actually pay for this shit is beyond me

The pay up front and keep on paying is a problem but its basically necessary. The costs of running the servers and maintaining them for games like EQ is gigantic. These games, and their unique gameply, would never turn a profit, and thus never be made, if it weren't for the subscription method.

This game though is being offered to you free for 7 days... you aren't even spending $50 dollars to buy it, you're just spending a fair amount of time downloading it. I don't quite see why there is the major hostility present in this thread.

I'd do the download and play it if I had a decent Internet connection, but I don't, so these games are worthless to me.

put it out for selling price, release expansions but allow it to be hosted ad-hoc. that way people will actually buy your game and wont bother stealing it and maknig private servers because no one wants to continue paying.
it is NOT a necesity for continuation payment, they just want to make more money

free for 7 fucking days? WOW, i can play for FREE for a WHOLE week, then after that i have to pay a lowly FOURTEEN FUCKING DOLLARS A MONTH. lets see, in barely a quarter of a year i have alreayd paid 50$ to you!

its all bullshit

As you just said, privately hosted servers where someone else is bearing the burden of being the server...

It is neccasary to pay the costs of a server hosting thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people. Thats the basic appeal of these games. I haven't, nor do I even want to, played NWNs, but I'll wager a bet that all those private servers out-there don't host very many people.

I know quite a lot of people who spend $50 dollars on a game, play it for 3 days and toss it out after beating it.

Also you've repeated your stupdity because they're giving you the game free, If something is free for a week, give it a try and see if you like it,.Besides which, plenty of people spend 2-3 dollars a day on coffee at starbucks equating to ~$60-$90 a month.. 15 dollars a month isn't exactly much money.

whats your point?

private servers with only a few hundred peopel are far better than big impersonal servers hosting tens of thousands of peoples, half of them botting and cheating and the admins dont give a fuck.and your attitude towards nwn just proves how stubborn and ignorant you are at this point

yeah, your point is irrelevant because we armnt talking about starbucks or food, we are talknig about monthly gaming fees. ivep layed planetscape befopre, its DEFINATELY not worth 14 a month for it. id go out and buy the games if i didnt have to play on their servers. shit fuck that. why play planetscape? i can play starsiege: tribes, or unreal tournament or other good fps games.

The point is no matter what someone is paying a price for the server.

Thats your opnion anyway. Others perfer those massivive servers. Matter of taste.

My attitude towards NWN has nothing do with stubborn or ignorant, I don't like RPG games on the computer that are based off D&D, I haven't enjoyed any of the ones I've played.

The point is that 14 (and its 13 btw) dollars a month is nothing. If someone thinks a game is fun enough to be willing to pay $13 a month for it, fine. Its their choice and 13 dollars a month is nothing. I probably spend $100 dollars a month on gas to feed my driving addiction.

That's the problem. The 7 days get's you hooked (if you like it), and then they can charge whatever they want. But eventually they will stop the "free period". Want some examples? How about Guild Wars? Or... (cough) Disney Toontown?

Uh. No.

They give you 7 days to see if you like it. Then if you like it enough to pay for it, you pay for it. That was the same idea behind something called "shareware" back in the day. Lets say you play 7 days and you like it, but it costs $30/month. How many people will pay that?

Download it, play it, see if you like it enough to pay for it. If you don't like it that much, you won't pay for it. If you play it and you "get hooked" enough to cough up cash for it, whats the harm? You like the game and you like it enough to pay for it. whats evil about that?

I have to say that I first played this game for free of a PC Mag Cover Disk and got 7 days free out of it.I didnt have a ninja computer or broadband but even sitting in a Tower with a MAX suit on pounding away at people got me hooked, though it took me a few months before I had a proper PC and I saw it for €14.99 in PC World.I bought it and havent stoped playing it since.

All MMO's are like this,The monthly fees are nessacary to keep the game going,Games Like Nation States can run off of Donations due to its simplicity but games like Planetside or Everquest etc. need monthly fees to keep their servers running.I admit its daunting but its not that much of a big deal,SOE are even running a 7in1 deal for all of its online games if you were interested in them.

If you dont like it after 7-days,dump it.If you enjoy it,Pay for a month and see what you think of it then,go from there.Since the usual €50+ fee of buying a game is about 3 months of a subscribtion you arent actually coming out any worse then buying a new Singleplayer game,Playing it for a few weeks(Unless its got a hell of a multiplayer or its Mist you wont spend more then that on it) and then leaving it.

1) guild wars hasnt even been released yet
2) there are going to be no monthly fees

Planetside is two worst qualities in first person shooters combined.
Inefficient and inaccurate weapons. I bought the game back when I needed something to squelch my thirst for MMORPGs after quitting UO, and was thoroughly let down. And of course I didn't notice the "additional online fees required" written in the most unreadable size and font possible. You can buy the game for 50$, but you still have to pay 15$ to get the free month. So you just get an extra month, as opposed to the first month being free.
