What would you consider the best food source in the world in terms of amount of food energy produced VS amount of waste given off?

What food is the most environomentally safe? Safe for human consumption, and is the cheapest?

IMO i would have to say one which most of you probably wouldnt have guessed:

Shell fish: mussels clams etc etc.

No pollution, little space wasted, LOTS of food produced, very very cheap to farm em.

I would google a post to support my idea but i am lazy and full of mussels.

But you can google a post....

Wheat. You get quite a bit of it from a single field, farmers are able to get two harvest in each year, it is abundant, it does not take much to grow it, and bread is the most important food.

Yeah, wheat or rice. Soybeans are pretty good. You can do a lot with soybeans.
