Real quick--the UN didn't call the US stingy.

A Norwegian person who works for the UN noted that wealthy countries don't realize how good they have it, and that we--the all inclusive we--aren't pledging enough in aid to the earthquake/tsunami victims. That's we as in "the rest of the world," not just the US. Personally, I think we as a country (the US) are being stingy, even with the amount upped to $35 million from the original $15 million, but that's me.

I just wanted to make sure that all the UN haters got it straight--the UN didn't accuse the US of being stingy.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled ranting.:)

Ah, but a representative of the UN said it, and based on your anti-American, anti-bush logic, had a member of the Bush administration said something, it immediately becomes the "official Bush Administration policy” So save your tired little anti-American rants.

Why do you hate America?

Yeah but according to that article in the last thread they did not take into account both private donations AND from the sounds of it were not thinking about the time needed to aprove funding of more then that

(and If I remember right there were some issues of a depleted budget for the gov org that handles things like this because of other recent relief efforts ... but I could have remembered wrong)

What you have to compare is how much the USA spends on AID as a percentage of GDP and more importantly hwo much the USA spends PER person. All the rich western countries can afford to pay, the USA spends more than say canada or sweden but on a per capita basis the USA's share is very low.

That being said good job by the USA in sending 4000 troops to thailand to help out!

The representative of the UN said that "rich countries" were stingy, not just the USA.

Here is something interesting... the US is doing a hell of a lot better than France, which has only pledged $170,000 and a rescue plane.

The US is aslo sending thousands of tents, supplies and humanitarian aid, not just cash to disappear into the coffers of every democrats favorite charity case, the local dictator.

Well I just wan't to step into here because how much does some American hate the united nations and how paraioned are they do they have tinfol hat to fool the spy satelitess??? Because that I have understod all of this ranting is based on one CNN article with a citat from a UN official that said in this article that the rich countries could do a lot more (not mention America specific. But it's seem that some of you American are so paraioned that you think that evrything the UN says is targeted against you directly. Well I have sugestion to you start thinking about the 150 billion dollar spent in Iraq, I think if you have a open heart you can find a lot to pissed of by.
To all other American good luck with evrything we don't hate you and you don't hate us. But hope some of you agree that America as the other rich countries have a big challenge to show that they can help out in the one of the worst natural catastrophy in modern time. And that the aid that the western countries already have given is really great but they could do more because it is alot to be done to stop a even bigger tradegy.
Take care from a Sweden.

Isn't it amazing how easily it is for people to just completely ignore what the topic was about while at the same time pretending to be intelligently responding to the topic?

I'm not radically anti-Bush, and had I been of voting age in either of his elections I likely would have voted him over the democratic candidate, but I do think that certain reactionaries within the conservative right on Nationstates have taken to using every single statement made by anyone, no matter how completely irrelevant to the United States, as an example of Bush-hating.
