Anyone Else Here?

Anyone else here ever get ignored on the forums? Like, you write up a new thread thinking "Wow, this is great!" and then watch it slowly sink on the forum's front page with Replies: 0, Views: 1? At most, I get thirty responses - if I have a good idea, a good day, and about 20% of the posts are bumps or half-assed posts that are really disguised bumps. Anyone in the same predicament feel free to lament your... predicament here.

I offer my lamentations. Threads I start rarely go places, but threads I just post in seem to do ok. Anybody got some advice?

I'm sorry ... did you say something?

Oh yeah ... +1

sounds like me... but that's because I tend not to have things to say.

You could try posting to attract the lowest common denomenator, but that would probably just attract flames.
To be honest, it doesn't really matter that much, as long as the threads that you post are of interest to you and you get at least 1 reply than you should be happy to know that you have affected the life of said person, if only in some humbly small way!

And no, thinking that way doesn't really make me feel much better either when I get no replies...

Trying being angrier and more controversial.

Make your threads about "Neocons are teh sux0rs!!1!11!eleven!!1one!!!" or "God hate faggots!" ...

Get more attention that way.

Most attention I ever got was a couple of weeks ago when I made a rather bigotted (and untrue) statement without adding emotion or sarcasm to it and went on to argue it a little.

It was fun, though I hate being the center of attention.

I would, but that stuff doesn't sit well in II, which is where I do the majority of my postins'.

Take a controversial issue and make a poll. Everyone loves polls.

It's because nobody cares. You'll get over it.
:fluffle:
Seriously, try posting something that people can discuss instead of making a "look at me" thread. I don't know what your previous attempts have been, but if nobody is interested you aren't going to get any replies.

Sometimes you have to wonder how many people have you on ignore...my posts in topics tend to get ignored, I know, as well as my new topics.

I'm also a big (and really unsuccessful) II person.

See, I can understand some of my stuff in II being ignored - most people don't care about your new 7% tax on nonbelievers, and I wanted that as part of a slow-but-steady scheme of increasing the amount of brutal oppression while simultaneously decreasing the number of personal freedoms - but I figured declaring I was going to spy on all religions and shut down the ones I didn't like would get some attention. Maybe I should accompany my ultra-discrete in-character press releases with a brief summary, such as -

IC:

The gov't issues a statement that all centers of worship will henceforth be monitored by police agents to ensure that they are not engaging in counternationalist conspiracy.

Summary for Stupid People: I'm going to spy on other religions and ban them if they disagree with me.

---

I've been looking for a way to create a topic in General that hasn't been beaten to death (Religion, Gu Control, George W. Bush, how much do you hate America, Religion, Abortion, and Religion). Sadly, my most successful topic ever was entitled Atheists = Wrong! It was mostly devoted to my love of Jon Stewart (but not love in a gay way*. I'm straight, he's just really funny.)

I had the same problem with my older nation, Wyrmsvaar, when I used it exclusively. I could get away with any warcrime I wanted to because no one read my posts.

So, a question for you 600-post getting threadstarters - do you have a big meeting before your posts or something, like telegramming people and saying things like "Hey, I want to argue about religion again, because I'm sure we'll reach a conclusion this time. Here, you get a bunch of atheists together who can make a couple of vague references to contradictions in the Bible and complain that their lives suck, I'll find a bunch of Christians who aren't trained in apologetics to quote irrelevant scriptures and condemn them to Hell."

And why exactly is the guy who thinks anime should be a religion better at attracting responses then me?

*- not that there's anything wrong with that.

Controversy does indeed work.

But if you are a dolt, you are just going to make a fool out of yourself.

Me, I'm not a dolt. So I decided to just make a fool out of myself. People seem to like it. :)

OK, I am NOT going to allow my thread about my threads' tendency to sink into oblivion sink into oblivion. That would just be an irony I couldn't possibly deal with it. Actually, it's not that ironic - which may be the greatest irony of all...

Yeah, I know what you mean. My threads feel ignored and unloved sometimes *cries*

But, this is a hard place to get noticed unless you literally have hundreds or thousands of posts, though. And considering how many people are here and all there is for general posting is "General," it's very hard to get attention. :headbang:

I think it's just trial and error. Hopefully, the region you're in has its own forum. :) Mine does and it's a lot more fun. :D
