Why?

Please...I really don't want any flaming for this or anything, I really am just curious.

I can see why people would like proof of God's existence, we ALL would like proof of God...but there is not any as of yet (At least, not any that everyone would believe, etc). Now, this isn't to say there will never be any. It's kind of like the discovery of oxygen. People knew they had to breathe to live...they just did not know why, or that oxygen even existed. Maybe a day will come when God is truly proven to be true. I'm just curious why people really do not want to have any faith at all. Everyone want cold, hard, tangible facts. Discoveries aren't made with facts :/

1.) Everyone has faith of some kind.
2.) Some people like facts for the same basic reason that others like religious beliefs. Facts are stable, secure, and our perception that we can quantify and understand the world around us gives us a sense of empowerment.

It is because many people are using "God" and the Christian bible as universal truth in arguments that have precisely squat to do with religion, while others are presenting cold, hard facts and getting flamed for it.

[Off-topic: Bible comes from the word biblio, meaning book, so if you define it directly from the translation, it just means book. Why do we refer to Christian holy texts as "the book", while assigning specific names to others? *blink*]

I think for the biblio thing it is because the Bible is a collection of books, all with their own separate titles lol.

I prefer facts myself, no doubt about that, but as I said, you need faith for facts to come about.

Aoden what do you think is better?

For a person to tell you that they love you or a person to show you that they love you?

That's because when it comes to religion, nobody has nailed it yet. Not one single person has gotten it totally right, therefore everybody argues what they feel to be true. That doesn't mean that what they believe is wrong, it's just not the whole picture.

Nihilistic: the thing is, i personally believe that I have been shown, just from all that has occurred in my life, etc. Proof of God for me is much more of a personal thing, even if I would like a world recognized proof, I am confident it won't happen, so I stay with my "personal proofs"

for me someone cannot just tell me they love me, they have to show me that they love me...they have to give me proof...because words mean very little...they are inert...and has you know...actions speak louder than words. When I was a child, I was taught that there was this good God that love me and would take care of me but as I became an adult I never seen this God do all of the great things I was taught that God would do and I found out as I grew older that I had no need for this God, while it might have provided comfort to that little girl, to the adult me, it would be a hindrence, it would stop me from growing...so I stop beleving. Like the Bible says "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a woman, I put away childish things"

God has done incredible things for me...but not in the incredible way we are taught. For me, my miracles are much more subtle, but they come at the precise time i need them too often for me to throw off as mere "coincidence." I don't expect God to crash a meteor in my front yard, so I focus more on the smaller things heheh.

I defintitely understand what you are saying about "actions speaking louder than words" though.
