Why argue about God?

I see many posts arguing about the existance of God. I have a couple of things to say about these. If God does not exist then there is no eveidence of God at all, for or against. Therefore in the absence of God it is impossible to PROVE his non-existnace. If he exists in the mindset of the majority of religions then he is a super powerful trancendental being not able to be locked into mortal standards. Therefore, if God exists as the Christian God or one similar than any proof of him is too limited to prove him to either exist or not to exist.

Another thing, proof means NOTHING! Proof is what leads you to a conclusion on what you will accept as truth, however it does not change truth. If a table exists then it exists whether I think it does or not. If God exists, then he Exists whether I think so or not. So whats the point?

You have just proved to me that debates about the existence of God are meaningless. However, since proof means nothing, according to your own admission, I will disregard that proof and continue debating.

Then logic would not exist.

Yeah, it seems useless to argue on the subject of God

People like to feel important or just have nothing better to do. Or people just feel better if they hash things out.

My feeling on the issue boils down to the idea that I personally cannot know whether anything outside the realm of empiricism is real or imaginary (this is the core of agnosticism right here). Existences or lack thereof with regard to deities is rather soundly outside aforementioned realm - and to those who feel everyone should believe because of the experiences of one, guess what: Most people haven't had a 'light of the spirit' experience or anything, and of those that do, enough differences exist that the experiences cannot be called common events.

Yeah, because nobody who is alive knows for sure.

I'm personally waiting till when I die or the world ends to know for absolute, fool proof positive that God is real ^^. I still believe in Him...but as Automagfreek said, you can't know for sure.

I'm sorry about that... What I mean to say is that Logic exists because of proof, lots of other things exist on proof.

Logic, as far as I know, is based on the ability to prove that something is or isnt. For example:

1 2 3 X 5

Logic would tell us that X might be equivalent to 4, on the basis of proof that the numbers are in a series, progressing by one, and are 1 2 3 4 5.

I'm probably not helping here, is there anyone that knows what I'm trying to say and could state it in a simpler way?

I find that argueing about god can be very useful. Of your never going to prove or disprove anything but a lot of the time i can see my views from a different light and gain new understanding.

The problem with debating is that no one is truly openminded, though. At least, not in the experiences I have had. Both groups want their view to be right, so both eventually become emotional and heated, and then the arguments begin to go in circles and its a no win scenario. Each group could care less what the other has to say by that point, and just want to make their statement known and have everyone agree with it.

The people who try to convince that God doesn't exist are same people who get offended when Christians pray in school. Thus, I ignore them.

The way we have seen it down the centuries is that every time there is a new god the believers in most cases feel they have to tell and convert everyone else to this 'truth'. Many feel they need to kill those who will not convert.

In an argument believers cannot accept any argument that 'proves' their god does not exist or that their beliefs are mutually incompatible even when based upon the evidence of their own writings.

The only reason to debate the question is so that the believers may/will gain some small understanding that other people have their own opinions. Probably less than 0.1% will come to understand the 'truth' and drop their religion. :headbang:

Why argue about god!

By doing so it only makes others angry and offended ( those who believe in god) Lets just mind our own buisenees when the subject comes to god.

Just like the people who try to prove that God does exist are the same people who get offended when they are asked to pray to themselves, thus I ignore them.

Don't respond, just a "two sides to every story" post. There is no difference between the two sides except the rules and titles they align themselves to.
