Should they be banned?

After scanning the first page of the General Forum, I once again became pissed off at the number of threads with the same subjects. Basically, there are two topics that are discussed where the same arguments are used in each thread. The topics are gay marriage and religion.
These topics are flooding up the my monitor. It is good to see that the topic of abortion has faded out for a while but it will be back. Personally, I stay away from such threads but it is hard to find other dicussions on the board. I, for one, am sick and tired of sifting through thread after thread of repeated bullshit where people endlessly debate people who will never change their minds.
I say we ban such topics. Doing so will allow us to discuss more important matters such as why punk rock is better than metal or are pink waffers evil.
Who is with me?

It seems cyclical. We get a spate of muslim vs. the west posts, then bush posts, then atheist vs. theist posts, then gay marriage posts rinse, repeat.

I say ban them all. Ban any popular topics.

if you actually read the gay threads you would find its become a big festering pit of spam and flaming, its kinda fun!

They're luckily all new to me, but I already tire of them. Shame really.
But what can they be replaced with then? What other topics for debate could there possibly be other than religion and sex? ;)
I say severely limit them, so that they have to propose a new idea, or get locked as soon as possible. And then gfet locked when they go OT.
Yeah, the religion and gay marriage debates are gettin kinda tiresome
Here, here. There are much bigger issues to attend to...like the question of how it is that when you post, it is remarkably often the first response to a new thread.
But no, don't ban these issues, just boycott them. Newbies can still discuss them and should have the chance to beat their heads against the wall just like we have.

While I think that a mod sweep of that thread in particular right now would raise the general intelligence of this board notably, that is kinda funny.

I guess that makes sense. Break them into the forum some.
I was wondering the same thing about Superpower. How does he do that?

i dont think itd be fair to ban any topics. ignore them yes if you dont like them. too much censorship is not right.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
There may be many dipshits on the forums, but trust me, I've been to sites w/a repressive "no touchy subjects" policy, and it is not a good idea. Probably half of the fun of this site is being able to discuss most anything without being IP banned by a self-righteous mod. And it's also kinda fun to just watch these flame wars play out.
I was wondering the same thing about Superpower. How does he do that?
It is kinda unsettling, isn't it? I'd noticed it before, then yesterday on three separate threads. Now this one, and one has to wonder not only how, but why?
So, Superpower, care to fill us in?
Superpower07

I say we get a big mass of I.G.N.O.R.E. Cannons and STFU Shields and bombard the flaming topics w/them.
(I hope somebody knows what I'm talking about)

I found Chess' bitching about abstract photography to be very refreshing.
What I hate is when the board gets flooded by gun control threads. I don't care. I'm not American, guns are harder to get where I live and I'm happy with the status quo.

A less obnoxious solution could maybe be to give them a separate forum, and let the mods move appropriate threads there.

Good idea. I wasn't serious about the whole banning thing. I just get tired of it. Maybe there should be two forums. One for the big topics and another for the less serious ones.

You know what else should be banned? Bumping threads...
I'm a relative newcomer here, but I'm a mod on another board- unfortuantely my sanity left me and I volunteered to mod what has become ( unofficially, unhappily, unwelcomely ) the hot topic forum....and I'm too addlepatedly 'responsible' to give up.
I promise you that moving threads like politics, religion, gays, abortion, gun control etc. into their own little forum...do you really hate your mods THAT much?
