Whats up with this hypocrisy?

Why is it that some people who complain about civil liberties being threatened in the name of preemptive counter-terrorism (preemptive tactics to prevent terrorism) also criticize bush for not acting preemptively to stop 9/11? Would this warrant the same "civil-liberties-are-in-danger" response or "stop being paranoid"?

Can someone explain this hypocrisy?

Because:
Well you don't have to get rid of civil liberties to stop a terrorist attack.
Because:
The FBI (or was it CIA) knew about terrorist in America amd watched them for a long time. One assume they could have arrested them.

Therefore:
If you know someone is up to something. You have proof that they are linked to terror. THen one can assume that they should do something about it.

So its not hypocricy just commonsense.

But eh, you keep on drinking that Kool-aid, k'?

Well, it may be along the same lines of those who complain in one post that we're spending too much money on the war in Iraq, and then complain in another post that we're not spending enough money on the war in Iraq.

It would be more consistent to say one or the other, but since you get points for saying anything that makes Bush look bad, you'll say both, even in the same post.

Is not trying to stop a terrorist attack exactly what everyone is paranoid about now?

arresting people without charge on presumption of stopping terrorism is not the same as stepping up nationwide security at airports and bus stations and what not in lgiht of a presumed terrorist attack
