...although it doesn't seem like the best time for celebrations.
Let us have a moment of silence for the over 13,000 dead (CNN) in Southern Asia.
At this hour:
over 6,000 dead in Sri Lanka
over 4,000 dead in Southern India
over 4,400 dead in Indonesia
over 400 dead in Thailand, including one American. Hundreds missing.
over 32 dead in Maldives, including two Americans
over 48 dead in Malaysia, 150 reported missing
over 2 dead in Bangladesh
This is a disaster that trumps 9/11 over four times over. And ya know the funny thing? It seems that the world doesn't seem to care. Not even for the 30,000 dead from last year's earthquake in Iran. No, it's all after-Christmas shopping, returning, and dinner in America, Canada, Britain, and the other so called "civilized" nations. Wow, we suck. We could all have searched for a place to donate money to these poor people who are now homeless, parent-less, or are critically injured. But no, we don't. Not even I. I watched "Meet the Fockers" tonight. And I bloody enjoyed it.
Stalin was right. "The death of one man is a tragedy. The deaths of millions is a statistic."
Anyway, cheers. To a year of still being here on NS, and still being here in the world.
