Help with Sims 2?

First of all, many thanks to anyone who can help me. I've been trying to solve this for weeks, even people on the Sims message boards can't help me.

I got the Sims 2 and a new video card (GeForce 4000) so I meet the min requirements to play it. I spent the 45 minutes necessary to install the enormous game, and then restarted my computer for good measure. When I try to run the game, the splash screen comes up, stays there for 8 to 10 minutes, then I get an error message that says "please eject the CD, re-insert it, and restart the program." The CD is in the drive, I'm sure it's the right one, and I can't get the game to work. This is expensive stuff here, and I'm getting reeeeeally irritated at how long it is taking for it to work. Can anyone help me? I'll give you a cookie!

I do have the CD version, and the manual hasn't helped at all. As I said, I've been looking for help for weeks.

And just for the record, I'm a girl. ;)

usually the manuals have something like "if this error occurs, do this." email ea and bitch about it.

or if it comes down to it, you might want to try and find a exe crack in order to play it.

How much memory do you have in your computer? What's your CPU? Are your running other apps in the background? Unfortunately The Sims 2 is a resource hog, and doesn't like having anything less than all.

Step one: play The Sims 1
Step two: slap yourself for buying the exact same game :p

I already did... >_>

Try using a NOCD crack, you can get them from lotsa places on the internet. It's possible that the copy protection on the CD is stopping your CD drive from reading the disk properly. It sounds stupid, and it is, but it's quite a common problem.

Also, make sure you don't have any other programs running in the background and that your resolution is set to that that the game runs in by default (probably 800*600). I doubt any of that'll help given the problem you stated, but you never know.

Also check with the EA tech support site, if they don't have a problems on there that fits what's happening to you, mail em and moan. It's always good to bitch, but expect the tech-support responses to be long and drawn out.

I played the first Sims series extensively until the second version came out and it is not the same game at all... * laughs* some of it yes there is similarities, but there is more to do, better graphics and more interesting ways to make storylines with Sims 2. That said I have no idea what the problem may be good luck finding out though!

Actually, the graphics bug the hell out of me to some degree xD. The way my mouse is set up, I don't have handy little buttons to move the screen left or right-I'm stuck clicking on the stupid little arrows :p. And I can't put any trees up, because I have no clue how to make them invisdable, so I can't see anything through them. Blagh.

Other then that, it seems a lot like the original, just with a few new whistles and flashing lights (like the aspiration thingie. Which bugs the hell out of me. :p)

Still, I DO enjoy the higher level of creativity I can have while making charecters. And I can make homosexual couples have kids, yay! xD

Hmm that is indeed odd. I got Sims 2 and it loads/installs faster than Sims1. Probably more of an install screw up I'd assume because the installer does a system check first. If it took you 45 min to install I'd have to say it's a problem with the medium or CDR/DVDROM. I got the DVD edition and it works perfectly though.

45 minutes to install is a bit extreme. Might be a memory issue.

Anyway, I love the Sims ... any game that lets you build a wall around someone just so you can watch them yell at you until they die is hilarious.

Sounds like a possibility. I just left a post in the thread "computer help please" http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=384721 that may help you clear up some memory problems.

Thanks everyone for trying to help me. So far nothing seems to be working though. I do have the bare minimum requirements for a few things to play the game, so I can see why it would run slowly, but that doesn't explain the CD read error. I think I'm going to try finding a nocd crack somewhere.

And Haken Rider, no cookie until my game works!

Thanks again for all the suggestions. :)
