This month has a wealth of holidays and blessings.
Chanukah, which translates to "rededication", also called the Festival of Lights, is a celebration of the victory of the Maccabees (hammer) over the Syrians and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. It also commemorates the miracle of the oil that burned for 8 days. Chanukah begins on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev.
Kwanza was established in the 1966 to provide an opportunity for the African American community to celebrate their heritage and reinforce positive community values. Kwanza is celebrated for 7 days beginning on December 26th and ending on January 1st. The values celebrated and reinforced by Kwanza are admirable for all people, no matter their race, religion, or country of origin.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Although the actual birthdate of Jesus is open to much debate, the hope and love of His message is the central theme for this day. In our home, as we sit down to our Christmas dinner, we all join hands, thank the Lord for our blessings, ask for His intervention on behalf of our loved ones who have passed, and then we sing "Happy Birthday".
So, on this special day, we would like to wish everyone a most blessed Christmas. May we know peace on earth.
