OK, i would say:
Prince Of Perisia: Warrior Within (http://www.princeofpersiagame.com)

...not sure what you would classify it as though... possibly platform

RPG will prolly be KOTOR 2 cause nothing else has been released
FPS will prolly be HL2, followed closely by Doom 3
RTS will be ...uhh.... what RTS games have been released this year?
Racing: Need For Speed Underground 2

You're right, Thief: Deadly Shadows couldn't possibly compete. It's not about the hitting, it's about the running and the hiding. Yes.

I have to go with Grand Theft Auto: San Andres. Though I love the multiplayer and gameplay of Halo 2, it just can't compete with the huge enviroments. Nothing can top flying down the highway on a motorcycle being chased by the cops, then taking a shortcut over a cliff to lose them.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

May seen like a kiddy game, but it has a mature battle system in it. Great fun with bright colors!

Yeah, but "make it bigger" is the only difference between that and every other GTA game.

I vote for Half Life 2, myself.

Let's see, Halo is the best First person shooter by far. Tales of Symphonia was a kick ass RPG. and otherwise, I don't really play a whole lot else outside os FPS, and RPG.

Halo 2 is by far the best XBox game I've come across this year.

On computer...um...The Battle for Middle Earth is what I'm playing now, but I don't think that it's the best game of the year. The game that took up most of my time on the computer (Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind) this year is one that didn't come out this year. Maybe Half Life 2 there, but I haven't played more than 30 minutes of that.

In my opinion the best PS2 game of the year would be GTA: San Andreas, I love the ability to just run around and do whatever. Although Jak 3 and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal both got excellent reviews I haven't played them yet.

No idea about Gamecube or anything Nintendo. Only game I play on my game boy color (that's how up-to-date I am in the handheld market) is tetris. And that definitely didn't come out this year.

Half Life 2 was an amazing game, probably the best this year, although it does have stiff competition from Rome Total War.

Halo 2 was, in my opinion, pretty dissapointing. VERY similar to the first one with a few things that actually were worse than the first game: The rather dissapointing ending and the weapons I found really annoying, I hate the fact that the marine rifle is so slow in firing and there is NEVER any ammo for it. The whole idea of having akimbo SMG's falls down because you just don't have the ammunition to go with it. Bar that, it did have some improvement over the original.

Half Life 2 did have more of a conclusive plot than halo 2 even if did feel a little lacking. The physics system introduced with the source engine in that game is quite simply amazing. The idea of beating zombies to death with paint cans is, in my mind, pure genius.

The sheer scale of of rome total war is amazing. As with the two preceding total war titles, its simply excellent.

The only other game I think should be a contender for game of the year is GTA:SA but I won't comment on that as I haven't played it.

I enjoyed MP2 the most, though I haven't gotten San Andreas yet. PoP was pretty damned good. I got that one for Christmas. The new Goldeneye was testament to mediocraty. I felt compelled to dig out my copy of the original and play that instead, but I couldn't find it. I used Perfect Dark to fill that FPS void in my soul. I played Fable a little bit, and to me it just seemed like Zelda with stat building. However, the best game of all time has been and shall always be: SUPERMAN 64!!!!!

Jesus, Halo 2 is the most overrated game ever. Not to mention FPS games just flat out suck on platforms. FPS games are best on PC, like most games except maybe racing games or something.

FPS: Either Half-Life 2 or Call of Duty: United Offensive
RPG: KotOR II
RTS: Rome: Total War

My nomination goes to Half-Life 2. Though if you want me to be frank, I didn't expect Half-Life 2 to be near as good (though I've played FarCry before that), I was totally blown away when I picked it up.

Uplink. Possibly the most original game EVER. Forget half life 2, Halo 2 etc. They are re-runs of old generes. Uplink is original, thats the key to a good game. Only flaw is its longivity, that needs to be extended. It can be too easy to get very far, very fast on some occations.

I loved the games of the past. Populus 2, Syndicate, Speedball 2, Dune 2...

Best game this year is HL2. Farcry is amazing to though. Whenever I get a newer computer I'll be reinstalling it and going through with top settings, for sure.
