So what have we learned this year?

In honor of the coming New Year, I thought it would be appropriate to make a thread to recap all of the wonderful things we've learned from reading the General forum.

George W. Bush is a moron.
John Kerry is a moron.
Ralph Nader is a moron.
Creationism is stupid because it is totally unscientific.
Evolution is stupid because it leaves people with no reason to live.
Rush Limbaugh is fat, arrogant, moronic windbag.
Michael Moore is a fat, arrogant, moronic windbag.
The United States was, is, and will always be a Christian nation.
The United states was never, is not, and will never be a Christian nation.
John Kerry and the French have a secret plan to ruin the United States.
George W. Bush and the extreme right wing have a secret plan to ruin the United States.
Muslim intolerance and extremism is threatening the West.
Christian intolerance and extremism is threatening the West.
Anti-religious intolerance and extremism are threatening the West.
The culture of the United States is too sexually repressive.
The culture of the United States is too sexually libertine.
The United States should be in Europe's debt.
Europe should be in the United States' debt.
The Confederate flag is a symbol of Southern heritage.
The Confederate flag is a symbol of racism.
Christianity has all of the answers.
Christianity has none of the answers.
Atheism has all of the answers.
Atheism has none of the answers.
Countries that use the death penalty are barbaric and cruel.
Countries that do not use the death penalty are barbaric and cruel.
The Democratic Party is good while the Republican Party is the supreme evil.
The Republican Party is good while the Democratic Party is the supreme evil.
Both major parties suck; vote Green.
Both major parties suck; vote Libertarian.
Both major parties suck; vote Nader.
George W. Bush is a horrible leader.
George W. Bush is an excellent leader.

But here's one for all time that I think we actually should keep in mind:

Debates, flames, and rants on an online forum will never, ever change anybody's mind.

Feel free to post any that I may have missed, but I ask that you please try to keep it bipartisan and fairly good-natured.

And, come on people, it's just satire. Please take your flames elsewhere.

I've learned that people make a fuss when two men wish to marry here (US), but that nobody seems to mind if they go elsewhere (Like Amsterdam, parts of Canada, etc).

I've learned that satirical shows will stay away from the topic of a certain musician's death, but will mention that rap saved us from grunge (...pfft. Can we be sure it wasn't the other way around?).

I've learned that Marilyn Manson, while he should never again cover a Ramones song, does a fine job covering Depeche Mode (go figure).

I've learned that any concert featuring many powerhouse bands is more likely to sellout faster than a movie featuring two... let's not go there.

I've learned that two old men who should have quit music back in the early 90's are liked far more than four/five old men who should have quit music once they started to deteriorate (1981).

I've learned. Indeed I have.

Hmm. It could be said then that:

1. You don't want to be a sheep. Since you don't want to follow the crowd, you must want to be an individualist.
2. Don't know how basketball fits in this.
3. In light of #1, you've learned not to trust what everyone else is doing. Another vote for being an individualist.

Sure you're not really a conservative who believes in personal responsibility over the nanny state?

Now there's a depressing thought for everybody who was under the impression that systematically repeating your opinions on an internet forum actually matters when it comes to the greater principles to which this world abides.

I've learned that to call some one a bigot makes the caller a bigot.
That Democrats are bigots
That Republicans are bigots

And, like you said, no one on this site is convincing anyone else of anything.
I guess that means we each know it all. :p

BTW, good original post. Makes a pretty sad commentary on us as a group, but it appears to be accurate in the short time I've been here, and I'm pointing the finger at myself as well with that criticism. Hope that doesn't consititute partisanship or flaming. ;)

People still can't spell my name

No one can spell my name in 'real life', either. Both first name and last name. My first name is Kaitlin (which has hundreds of spellings already), and they always insist on putting a c into my last name, which I won't mention here. :3;

I have learned this year...

*It really is not a good idea to tell people you would like the Democratic candidate to win in a Catholic school, even when they ask you of your opinion on the matter.
*It actually really is not a good idea to BE Catholic and have a preference for the Democratic idea on most things.
*Raisinets are the chocolate and raisiny Lifesaver's Fusions.
*Do not keep a dead hamster in the freezer to preserve it for longer.
*Kanji is a necessary evil.
*Dubbed anime and translated manga are unfortunately necessary evils.
*The word baka has three different meanings in three different languages:
~Russian- bye
~Japanese- stupid, fool, idiot...
~Spanish- cow
So, when saying 'baka', it is more like saying, 'Bye, stupid cow.'
*My computer somehow receives radio signals... So, whenever we turn on the volume even a little bit, we can hear weird voices and music from the radio. I'm beginning to recognize the channel by the music... Recently, they have been playing Christmas music.
*Chain emails are evil, and much like spam (even though I have never had that before...).
*The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker is a madly awesome game.
*No matter how I try, I will never beat The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask without a guidebook.
*Dress codes make life easier...except for the pants.
*Never, ever...when your little tennis team is in Wal-mart, and one girl goes off to buy ProPEL...tell, by mistake, your coach (if he asks)...that she has gone to buy ProPANE.
*Spanish is the easiest language in the book...after Japanese, that is.
*You really can tell a lot about a person from the kinds of movies they own.
*Broccoli and braces just do NOT mix.
*As long as brainwashing does not exist, opinions and resistance will.
*It is not a good idea to pick articles about cloning and stem cell research for Science class in a Catholic school, even if it is about chickens.
*American Eagle carries the softest hoodies known to mankind.
*Apparently, Christmas is evil and will somehow disturb the peace in the United States, although Hanukkah is perfectly healthy.
*He will always win Florida.
*There is a giganourmous super volcano under Yellowstone Lake that will kill off most of the United States, if not beaten to it by terrorists or the giganourmous tsunami that is supposed to come from a landslide on the western coast of Africa. So much for an enviously good geografic location.
*Where there are answers, there also are more questions.
*The ancient civilizations liked to 'keep it in the family'.
*Moses's father's wife was also his aunt.
*Never set limits to a teacher's thought capacity... (In Geometry, my teacher once said, with his Alabama accent, of the children in public schools, 'You can't kill THEM...')
*Never ignore your little brother when your sleeping is standing between him and his Christmas presents.

There most definitely was more, but I feel that this is a sufficient amount. :3

Oh, dear. I'm inheriting an estate of $18 million dollars. I have to give some of it away because my president desperately needs a way not to cut and run on his oil war. I have to give some of it away because people are starving and nobody gives a damn. I have to give some of it away because that's the way a progressive income tax works. Pay your taxes like everyone else!

Personal experiences during the course of the year, and probably longer, and just recalling many of them. I found myself in a bit of hell in Spanish class after Kerry conceded that election... 'F*** Kerry! F*** Kerry, you stupid Democrat!' :mp5: It was not a good day, to put it in short. XD;

I love it when people assume paying inheritance tax is a rich thing.

Depending on where you live, you could end up paying inheritance tax on a mortgaged property.

READ what it is before casting stones, please:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inheritance_tax

So, here's one for you:
Your parents come from (insert country here). They work for 30 years, build up a nice (grocery/farm/gas station/small business), with an attached house. Sadly, they both die in a tragic car accident. Everything gets left to you, the only child. Total value of the property is $200,000. *BAM* you now owe the feds and state government $20,000-$100,000. Have a nice day. :(

Now imagine that the property is mortgaged as well. "Paying your taxes like everyone else"? Pfah. Paying is one thing. Paying extra because somebody dies is stupid.
