Where does the Simpson family live?

Apparently they do not live in Florida, and Disneyworld is about 2,900 miles away from them...and they all have a huge distaste for Disney's California Adventure...

Northern Kentucky. Acording to an episode hosted by the character of Troy McClure.
Too bad about Phil Hartman.

I think it's somewhere in Ohio. I think the voice actress of Bart lives near there (or lived), and on one episode they were driving to "Capital City", and a road sign stated the distance in miles of Cincinatti and Capital City.

Also, when cheering for Springfield University, they chant "Go S U" which is quite similar to "O S U".

Okay, so they may be making a joke with the Springfield University, but I can't find a reason for the Capital City.

There's still the issue of having a coast, however. The Ohio River isn't nearly wide enough to pass for the ocean, and far too brown.

Milhouse moves to Capital City because his mom found a new job there. Then his dad won custody out of pity.

despite the every-so-and-then mentions of where they live, I really just think they live anywhere. They have beaches, deserts, lakes, fields, some mountains even (if you notice in many episodes where an aerial view of springfield appears, the town is within mountains, almost like las vegas.)
so it CAN be ANYWHERE. after all, the location of the town and its geographic features are all based on the events of all the episodes.

That description matches Oregon perfectly. We have beaches, Mountains, Deserts, lakes, And Fields. Plus there is a Springfield Oregon practicly attached to Eugene Oregon. For those of you who don't know Eugene (U of O) is a college town, and then 50 miles away is another college town (OSU)

They did say Northern Kentucky though it is of course inaccurate seeing as how Springfield has a beach, desert, forests, mountain (the infamous Murderhorn), and Springfield Gorge. I suppose Nothern Kentucky could have all that. Kentucky does have a Shelbyville though...

I know, I live in L.A. However, Springfield has seasons, where as we in CA for the most part do not. CA had occured to me as I posted that, but since they regularly get full winters, that doesn't really fit.

I was going to say that there's no Springfield, CA, but there is (go figure):

I'd imagine that that area would get more snow.

The writers mess about with where they live all the time, tricking you into thinking they've said where the Simpson's live. In one episode, Skinner says "I remember when this school was named the worst in Ohio", and then Mrs. Hoover tunrs to him with a surprised look on her face, and Skinner says "Until it was packed up and moved here, to Springfield."

I generally consider the Simpsons' Springfield to be its own little America. It has its own Hollywood, its own mountain range, its own desert, yadda yadda yadda.

Yeah, I always assumed Springfield was supposed to be Everytown, USA. I mean, there's a Springfield in every state in the Union (well, maybe not Hawaii). Which is why the founding legend of "Jebediah Springfield" is so funny.

There was another with Marge on the phone for customer service, and she delivered the address as "742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield, O hi Maude!" As Maude Flanders passed the window behind her.

Superintendent Chalmers says that to Skinner and Lisa, and the state was not Ohio. I believe the state was in New England, possibly New Hampshire.

I believe it's Missouri. In the episode where Mr. Burns is reunited with his long lost son who works at a junk stand selling distorted Pepsi bottles and googlie eyed rocks he sees him in the window of the train. When it starts pulling away, he yells to the conductor, "Where's this train headed!?" and the conductor says something that sounds a lot like Missouri.
