So, the question of ages surfaces again. NationStates, which soft drink do YOU believe is better? I prefer Coke myself.

Grew up in a coke cola household, so I'm a coke girl all the way.

Except in Florida*. Florida coke is nasty, and the pepsi actually tastes more like Australian coke than the coke does...

*possibly all of America... I only spent time in Florida, so I can't say for sure whether it was only a regional thing or not.

All colas taste like battery acid; Coke just has more sugar.

Out of the choices offered, Pepsi, because I'm the kind of person who drinks cheap plastic-bottle vodka straight. Overall, RC cola because it's less obnoxious.

However, Cake (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/comforteagle.php) doesn't care which you drink.

I hate them both although Coca Cola has a worse record including the murder of Colombian trade unionists and the stealing of water in India.

Pepsi is better, though Coke is a close second. It has an aftertaste Pepsi doesn't have, but that's about it.

Coke tastes better. I used to think Pepsi tasted better until I got to college, where you can ONLY get Pepsi products on campus. You get sick of it pretty fast.

Normally, if something contains some sort of additive with more than 7 syllables, I am wont to eat or drink it, but hey! we live in America so why not. My vote goes to Coke, in being possibly more carcinogenic, but tastier.

Let me think... woulod I rather be fucked up the arse by a tall man or a short man? Oh you're right- they're both a little undesirable, when not invited.

Tastewise, Pepsi out of the 2.

The idea someone said above about a college selling only one product is fucking disgusting, and makes me really glad I'm not American.

Without a doubt, I prefer Coke. Coke a more prominent, infatuating, flavor. It also enjoys a greater heritage. Anything that once contained C17H21NO4 (yep, that's cocaine) is alright with me.

Well Pepsi also conatined cocaine in its early days as well. Hence the name Pep-si

Anything to help the local economy.

No, that's wrong. It comes from "pepsin", a digestive enzyme in the stomach.

RC when I can get it. Dr. Pepper as a second choice. But both are so hard to come by here, it's usually Coke.

(BTW, your poll question contains a spelling error - no right thinking person spells "coke" as "pop". :p ) fun map (large) (http://www.popvssoda.com/countystats/total-county.html)

I'm sorry if I sound stubborn, but I'm pretty sure my Pepsi-name-reasoning-thing is correct. Besides its a bit more intuitive to me than pepsin. Is there any reason at all that pepsin should be associated with Pepsi in particular?

Most certainly. It was originally used medicinally for indigestion. Earlier Pepsi ads advertised it as a digestive aid. It was later, albeit not much later, that it began to be used as a soft drink as it is now.

Uhmmm.... maybe because it contains pepsin? :)

"Brad's drink", created in the summer of 1893, was later renamed Pepsi Cola in 1898 after the pepsin and cola nuts used in the recipe. In 1898, Caleb Bradham wisely bought the trade name "Pep Cola" for $100 from a competitor from Newark, New Jersey that had gone broke. (http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blpepsi.htm)

-Pepsi is sweeter than Coke
-My NationState is named after candy
-My NationState's currency is cookies

Guess which cola confection I chose! :)

Hell, if that's what you want, then have a God's Blessing--good coffee with better Irish Whisky in it. That's the ticket for letting the booze and the caffeine fight it out for control. :D

It's all fizzy brown water with way too much sugar.

And it's the sugar I want to talk about. I actually used to really enjoy Coca-Cola...but my late father used to work in 'sweeteners' for Canada Starch (later a subsidiary of the American CPC International {Corn Products Corporation}) and so I got to find out all about the sugars used in industrial foodmaking.

Coke, and all other types of pop, used to be made with sucrose, a liquid form of sugar derived from cane plants. But there are cheaper alternatives - mostly fructose, sugar derived from other plant sources, primarily beets or corn. Coke decided a number of years ago to replace sucrose with fructose, and saw their profits rise accordingly.

There was a period of overlap, when the US had already switched, but Canada hadn't - which didn't mean a whole helluva lot, except that when I ordered a Coke in the States, there was this semi-undefinable aftertaste that I didn't get from the Canadian product: corn. Yup, American Coke had an icky aftertaste of corn, kinda like sucking back on liquid Doritos.

Maybe the reasons for switching over had something to do with the Cuban embargo, I don't know. But it was some surprise that I picked up a few 2L bottles for entertaining over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and found to my dismay - the same corny taste! In my beloved Coke! Aieee!

I haven't been able to drink any Coke since. I've been making a point of buying store-brand, generic cola instead - and you know, it tastes more like Coke than the current version of the 'Real Thing'.

Way to go, Coke. You cheaped out to enough of an extent that I'm no longer interested in your fizzy brown water. *corn flavoured pop - Yiiiiiick.*

Soda is nasty. Nothing but sugar and caffene. Sugar rots your teeth, caffene might give you cancer, lack of nutrients is REALLY bad considering that what most people eat isn't very healthy either, and it's just bad overall. My preferred drink is milk. It tastes good, and it's (gasp)healthy.
