Labels don't define intelligence, though intelligence can be defined by certain labels.

We come in all varieties, most likely too central/left for you to deal with.
Then again, even terminologies and groups change over time. Social progression is a constant stride to the left, like it or not.

So no.

I'm not left wing or right. I am infact a total libertarian.

Why does everyone use the left/right scale on all political issues?

Why does everyone use the left/right scale on all political issues?

These days it's politically correct to look at issues on a basis of political compass, with authoritarian and libertarian on the vertical axis and left and right on the horizontal. However I suspect that the left/right characterisation has been popular ever since the beginning of the cold war. I'm a centrist libertarian myself, and my family reckons I'm a communist. I chalk that one down to sheer ignorance.

Join date Dec 2004. Musta been Dec 20th 2004. Why do newcomers post crap like this without watching and reading the threads for awhile first? Such stupid questions wouldn't need to be put into thread form then. Humerous. Most humerous.

No. I'm neither liberal nor a Democrat. I'm not a bigot either.
I'm assuming that your homophobic thread has lead you to believe this.
I'd ask, do you also assume that anyone who isn't liberal (or a Democrat) is a homophobe?
Is racial prejudice also part of your so-called right wing agenda?
Perhaps closed-minded is a better description.
I'm Libertarian, btw, and you probably have some opinions I'd consider too far left for my tastes. But I'm hardly closed or narrow-minded.

I find it amusing that many conservatives see liberal as a small insult and many liberals see conservative as an insult. Sadly I conform to this. It's all quite silly really, but the only ones that bug me are stupid hippied that muddle capitalism with naziism. And equally stupid rednecks that accuse anyone more than slightly left of them of being "pinko commies".

What the hell is pinko anyway? Im English, I dont speak redneck.

For the record, Im on the edge of old labour or democrat, close to socialist. Im also about as libertarian as I am left wing.

I'm not a democratic-liberal. But that won't help you, since I am a socialist.

A Pinko is an American communist or socialist. Meaning, they mix Red idealism with their traditional protestant White background. I don't think it carries the sting it did during the Mcarthy era.

Oh I see. Yeah its a lame insult and always was. It only carries a sting to people who dont come close to said ideology.

If someone called me a commie i would just respond that its a beautiful idea, but humans are involved it would go wrong. A balance of capitalism and government intervention is always the best system, as a pure free market is as prone to curruption and domination and the eventual destruction of its people by large firms as communism is by dictators. (more a disclaimer proving my politics) What the ideal balance is is anyone's guess, but that guess would vary with politics I reckon.

Anywhere from moderately right to moderately left. in the range 7 to -7 on the political compass. You could be anywhere. Well, barring the extreme areas.

Considering that the mix of opinions I'm hearing so far isn't that different from the range of opinions I hear at work, it doesn't seem too liberal or conservative to me.

One of two things must be true:

1. You just haven't been on this Forum long enough to pick up on the "lay of the land," so to speak.

2. You work at an exceedingly liberal organization like say, NPR, or NOW, or the ACLU, or The New York Times, or the DNC, etc. :D

There is a spread of people here. But seeing as this game is about running a country, the players must quickly realise that conservatives often lie and become liberal. Which is due to the fact there arent any liberal politicians in the world at the moment. Well not proper liberals. So as all politicians lie and few are liberal, conservatives do all the lieing.

Seriously, there is a wide spread from nazis to anarcho communists. Its just that there are lots of vocal moderately intellegent liberals here. Conservatives only seem to come in two varieties, either dumb as hell, or really quite intellegent. So a lot of the conservatives here are too inarticulate to explain their politics.

Okay I can't stop taking piss. I appologise.

There is a spread, how even it is varies from day to day.
