A new retarded law

And fortunately, it's not in the US, though who knows whether someone in our current Congress/administration will think this is a good idea.

From MSNBC: (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6747011/)
MEXICO CITY - There's a city in Mexico that's making it illegal for citizens to be naked — inside their own homes.

Officials in the southeastern city of Villahermosa confirm that the city council has adopted a law banning indoor nudity.

A council member who opposes the idea says he's not sure how it'll be enforced.

But a councilwoman who supports it says she's confident that citizens who catch a glimpse of violators while walking past their windows will report them to police — even though the law also threatens jail for peeping Toms.

She describes the law as "zero tolerance" for "a lack of morality."
Wow.

That might just stop them from coming to the US illegally.

No sex? No bathing? No um... sleeping naked...?

That sounds both stupid and foolish. Why would you ban nudity?

Remember... you must keep at least one article of clothing on at all times that covers you fairly completely.

The real question is if a bikini is naked. I mean... given how some of those are barely there, how is that non-naked? :p

Because they can levy huge fines and swell the public coffers every time a baby is born.

No, I agree. I detest overpopulation and all the problems it causes. I applaud China's 1 child law, and if it results in them only having boys, and the entire nation being destroyed by their sexism and stupidity, that's an added benefit.

On the note of Mexico, you all know what I think of Catholics and their refusal to use birth control or claims to abstain from premarital sex...

But this law is stupid, literally, and won't last long at all.

No argument. However, they have remained loose on some issues (prostitution, for example) and are loosening up on many issues (it is noe legal to dance on tables and bar tops).

I'm still not sure the story is on the up and up. It just seems to be too out there. But they did put up a Walmart by Teotihuacan, so who knows what the hell is going on in Mexico anymore? I'd just like to see them try and do something like this in Brazil. Yeah, right! Like that'd happen!

Just remember - Singapore might be whacky, but what happens in Bangkok stays in Bangkok.

I wouldn't want to be walking through that village in a week or so--everybody wearing the same underwear for that long. Whew!

The trick is to put a new shirt on before your new underwear and you don't have to be naked.

I would love to see how they plan to enforce it, or even how they think they can justify it. Being naked is immoral now? Maybe being naked in public could be a problem, but being naked in your own home seems more harmless and normal than immoral to me.

24-12-2004, 04:51
lol. What is `immoral` is enforcing things like this on citizens.

The only people who obey this law will be people who obey laws simply because `it is the law`.

Words on paper do not necessarily make crimes. They can say it is a crime, and they can punish.
