The spirit is in the right place, but its just a piece of sloppy legislation that gives stupidly great powers to federal bodies.

It amazes me how anyone can use both "Nazi" and "Jew" as slurs in a single sentence...

The act does help remove some unnessesary limitations however, it gives way to much ability to abuse civil rights. I don't think the government can be trusted with this much power. (not just bush and friends but humans in general)

The freedom of civilians is my no. 1 concern, but in order to keep that freedom the civilians must be alive and safe, so IMO the Patriot Act balances the nations need for freedom and security.

I agree with most of it, but there are certain parts that I certainly wouldn't want to exist with someone like Janet Reno in a position of authority.

Not that I can support or not support the Patriot Act since I can't vote on it, let us just say I disapprove of it. Most of us in the US will never be touched by the broad sweeping effects of the Patriot Act, but for those of us who are they can be devastating.

The Patriot Act strips away many of our Constitutional rights as American citizens. Right now, if a Federal Agent takes an interest in you, your wires can be tapped, your mail monitored, and you can be placed under constant surveillance with little or no legal protections for nothing more than suspicion. In other words, it is a massive waste of vital intelligence resources at a very critical time.

Before the Patriot Act Federal Agents had to justify using resources with a least a few hard facts to a judge. Those days are over. Saying something that is anti Bush Administration on a forum like this could be a green light to a Agent in Homeland Security to waste hundreds of man hours building a profile on you. With Al Qaeda lurking at the borders we do not need our Intelligence Agents going up the rectum of every American with an opinion.
