So as far as quality of life, opporitunities, environment, employment, etc, what is the World's Best nation to live?

If your choice isn't there (10 maximum), then simply click 'Other' and enter your response.

Second, when our unemployment rate in the US reached new highs, it still didn't reach the level of Canada's.

Third, its damn cold! I mean...high tax rate.

Ok, im gonna say America because im American. I extremely dislike when people stereotype Americans as oil hungry pigs who want nothing but war, money, and to always be right.

I support President Bush, but not on all his decisions. Everyone calls him dumb, hes not dumb, hes just not extremely smart. Dumb is "Omigosh! I just ate soap!" (Thank you John Stewart) But i didnt think the war was a great idea, i think we should have used out super secret spies to take out Saddam :sniper:

Haha, idk if Saddam really had missiles because he could have a remote holding space, i dont know. But what i do know is that North Korea is more of a threat. Saying that if America attacked them, they would turn Japan into a Sea of Fire. If that isnt enough...well then (You--> (X.X) :mp5: )

So, no, I am not just choosing America because its where i live, personally ive been to Canada and i love it there, wouldnt like to live there, but still. I chose America because its the last Country where you can basically have loose freedoms and still have strict Police control.

Canada for the win. Free health care (taxes are a bit higher but of all the times I have gotten injured I was seen quickly, and my father got his kidney transplanted in a good period of time as well so I personally haven't had problems with the waiting time)

Also, I find the people in Canada more friendly in general although I think the idea that American's are "hostile and hate others" is greatly exaggerated too.

We also enjoy many freedoms for all of our citizens (Gay Marriages will soon be legalized in the rest of the country, and perhaps marijuanna although I really don't care/want to use that kind of stuff personally).

Japan was very kind to me as well but I'd have to say Canada is the best. I shall forever call it my home, although right now it is cold to the point where I'm wearing gloves while typing :P

Oh, I'm in the Maritimes and actually around here we generally do not lock our doors at all unless we all know we'll be gone for extended periods of time :D

Oh, okay.
And I bet they didn't do away with that rule, as land is incredibally precious in the Netherlands. The government would be perfectly happy with a skyscraper, and give it lieniancy. However, when looking at any European city/town, the architecture is all the same. What does that mean? Strict zoning regulations. I would probably be unable to buy a condo wherever I wanted to.

It obvious that the US is the Best Nation in the world. If were not the best, then why do we have so many people that want to come from other countries and live here. Plus, we have exsisted as a Nation for just over 200 years, which is not really all that long, and have become one of the most, if not the most advanced nations in the world and are also the only remaining Super Power in the World.

Actually you dead wrong. I sleep with my door unlocked. We've had two drunk people walk into our house because of that, not that they've taken anything, they've just gotten confused.

We've had this talk at college actually there was two people who locked their doors during the day, an american transfer student, and someone else (who was actually Canadian)

During the night about 80% lock their doors.

So no, Canadians don't lock their doors.. this has nothing to do with Michael Moore left wing.. right wing.. or anything else. We just don't lock our doors. If leaveing your door unlocked makes a place "paradise" well.. okay.. if you say so.. I'm not saying that, I'm just saying we don't lock our doors.

The United Kingdom for me.

I am British and I've spent some time in both Canada and the US and most of Europe. I have to say that while most nations have some very good things going for them, I've never liked anywhere better than here (although Canada did come DAMN close and still is).

The US was a consumers paradise and had lots of nice people there (though as anywhere there were some not so nice people). If anything the only real thing I disliked about the place was the healthcare system, $800 dollars for a route canal? and $3000 to give birth? I mean jeez guys come on:P My route canal here cost me like $40 and giving birth is free:P

Out of Europe, well my favourite country has been Germany. Many of the people I met in france were quite rude to me off the bat, and Switzerland is beautiful but rather expensive:P I've never been to Italy but I'd love to...

Anyway, thats my two pence:P

Out of impluse I voted US, because I'm from here and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I have plans to go to the phillipines in the summer and japan next year so I'll have some more perspective on Asia, but not Europe, heh. After some thought I think I'd vote Canada for one reason, free health care. When you get hurt in Canada you go to the hospital. In America when you get hurt you call family and try to fix it yourself, hospital prices make you wish you blead to death. My friends uncle got screwed up in a horrible car accident and they did surgury that costs thousands to save his life and thousands more to keep him stabilized in the hospital while he recovered. After he got out of the hospital, the bill came... it made him homeless. The man's happy to be alive, but I think I would of rather had death after all that.

New Zealand is the best nation, because we are small, free and multicultural.
We actually bothered to have a treaty granting native maoris the same rights as british colonialists, unlike australia which has yet to do so.
We are respected for our independance and fair laws, especially our anti-nuclear laws.

Basically, we are able to become a state of australia, but we chose not to because then nobody else would be able to beat the sports teams we have.

The vote is unfairly split here. The US-voters are composed of people who like them and hate the way they're going down now, as well as those who are happy with current policies.

The ones who live in the US and don't like them (great amount apparently; most nations here are American) are split between France, Canada and Australia, for the most part.

Monaco. Reside there for 6 months a year and then you are classified as a resident and do not pay income tax. Sales tax is high and the whole place is supported by tourism. My photography professor spent time teaching in America. He took nude photos for exhibitions. They were set in the middle of nowhere, in forests or swamps. However, he still kept getting arrested. Apparently, some random people saw him doing "weird stuff", which was simply not acceptable. The cops showed up in every other shoot, asking for ID or taking him to the station. America...land of the free,

[who ever told you that is your enemy

Sorry, but yeah Im thinking that no Western developed nation is particularly free right now, but especially not America and it's bitches (like England, my home).

There are a lot of freer nations, right now the war on terror is an excuse to revoke freedoms and rights, something that the US and the UK are doing admirably well. There are many less free, but the margin is slowly shrinking.

Yes you correct and correct. You see, the Torys are quite right wing right now, they are traditionally sort of right of centre, but Tony moved labour there. The lib dems, normally centrist and slightly libertarian have moved left to fill the vacuum, but there is no solidly left party in the UK with any power right now.

Oh and who ever said "If you didnt like your country get the fuck out" is a bigot. (i think this applies to Deutschland America and Newzada)

If you dont like your country, or at least could see ways it could be better, you are questioning it, moving it foward. You are a true patriot, seeking to make your nation a better place rather than just letting it slide back into nothingness because you are afraid to to question it. People like you are fools. Definitely France as it is the most anti American and took the most sensible position on the Iraq war. Also has the best health service in the world.
I don't consider being anti-American to be a great attribute. I wouldn't call France one of the greatest countries, they have way too many problems (most of which are related to poor Muslims) for that. Good health service. Their governent is very sneaky and corrupt however. Not nearly as bad as the American gov't, but still bad.

As an anime fan and liberal, sick of being the US, I would have to say Japan.
Japan is largely a conservative place.
Nice. So tell me, what are the zoning and tax regulations in that country?
I think that in comparison to most of Europe, the Netherlands is pretty libertarian with their taxes and other economic stuff.
I will give you that....however...the US is still one of the best....the US's power, both military and political, is not matched by any Nation, even the Netherlands.
I do not agree that having a lot of power makes a country the greatest in the world. From about 1945 to 1990 the USSR had more power than almost any other country in the world, but I would never call it a great country.

My mother-in-law works for the UN. Canada was #1 for 7 years in a row. Then about two or maybe it was three years ago they changed how they mark countries, mostly at the insistence of the United States because they kept doing so poorly. However I do hear the Netherlands is a nice liberal place to live. I believe #1 this year was Norway.

Lots of people from other countries want to come to the UK too, many risk their lives to do so

Is this type of attitude indicative of "freedom"?

He's only representative of the trend. More so than most nations, most American citizens are truly insulated from the world outside. It's a historical tradition dating back to the founding of the nation.

By and large, unless someone comes and directly affects us, we don't want to deal with it. And I think that having no history of "dealing with it" on a daily basis like most nations do, the US, when it does actually "deal with it" does a haphazard job at best.

That's not to say that the European nations do much better, but they have a lot more practice in operating in the world.

well normally everything is ok, but a couple of weeks ago they killed Theo van Gogh (a marrocan guy shot him a couple of times, walked over to him and stabbed him even more).
Theo was a journalist/writer/director with a very strong opinion about everything. and when he got killed a lot of dutch ppl had enough and wanted to put a stop to maroccan guys being violent (alot of the ppl who get beaten to death for no appearent reason are killed by maroccans).
So there was a short period where dutch ppl werent as welcoming to foreigners as usual and burned mosques and stuff like that.
it just frustrates alot of dutchies (and me aswell) that the fundamentalists are putting the rules in the islam above our laws and dutch moral values (they kill ppl out of honorary reasons and stuff like that)
