Why are we here? What is the point of existance? I would like to hear peoples thoughts on this.

We are here to increase the levels of greenhouse gasses, dioxin, and bioavailable heavy metal compounds in the biosphere in order to pave the way for god's chosen creatures who are yet to be evolved.

I think we are a version of the Simms game and some alien nation is playing us at this very moment.

To procreate. To reproduce. For sexually reproducing organisms, copulation.

I think we are here to worship God.
I have a Bible quote for this, think of it as you will.
"What does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8)
I think that's it, really. The purpose of life is to walk humbly with God.

Wow. Talk about circular reasoning.

Just as when we were in the womb and our bodies and minds were developing so that we could enter the outside world, our purpose is now still to prepare for the next world.

How we decide to do that is up to us.

Humanity as a whole, and each of us individually, is an inseparable part of all that lives.

Human beings can positively influence changes in other living things through prayer and meditation, and are, so far as we know, the only living things which can do so.

Having this ability imposes upon us responsibility toward other living things.

Therefore one of the primary purposes of human beings, and of each human life, is to protect and nurture life in all its forms.

Make sense? :)

We can positively influence changes in other living things through prayer and meditation? I haven't seen any solid experiments that demonstrate that.

Nope. Without doing all the other things necessary for the species to survive and flouish procreation itself is biologically useless. Our purpose is to protect the world and ensure adequate resources and advantages for the offspring of the members of our species who do procreate.

Ant colonies, for example, would not survive without the workers who are sterile.

This reminds me of something my 11th grade AP English teacher said every day. Every morning, before he'd start teaching, he'd ask "Comments? Questions? Meaning of life?"

Of course, he admitted that he would be terrified if we answered the latter. Anyway, he asked this question every day, up until his children were born (triplets!); on that day,we assumed he had learned the meaning of life.

Why are we here? Simple. We turned on a computer, accessed the Internet, and typed in "www.nationstates.net." Then we clicked the Forum button, went to General, and saw this thread. I challenge anyone to provide a better answer for why we are here!

Two links that I can pick up right off the bat:

1. The Spindrift Studies ... http://home.xnet.com/~spindrif/index.htm

2. A number of other studies, many of which have been explored by the Physician and author, Dr. Larry Dossey, one of whose books is Prayer Is Good Medicine ... http://dosseydossey.com/larry/goodMed.html

Prayer- no. Wrong. Stuff like yoga (all parts) are physical.
We are here because we are not interested in not wasting time. Basically, we are here because we are not over there.
