Contrary to popular belief, the version you read in the history books in high school is actually a very abridged version of the Constitution. For example, in the election law of the unabriged, it states that, if the President-elect and VP-elect die before inaguration, the runner ups become the President-elect and VP-elect. Which means if Bush and Cheney were to die, be it from natural causes or assassination, Kerry would become President on January 20th.
